Timeless Treasure

Chris and his dad found this 340 Demon over 20 years ago in a junkyard. It was missing the 340/4-speed and interior. They towed it home, painted it, installed a 440, and his dad drove it this way until '94.
Aside from the drivetrain and a few goodies, its the same car they put together back in '81, including the paint.

To stiffen things up, a 6-point bar and frame connectors were added.
A Mopar 52.5" Dana 60 was then added to handle the rotational stresses they planned on adding, which is held steady with inboard SS springs.
Inside the big Dana holds 5.12 gears and a Trac-Loc Sure-Grip.
The wheelwells were then replaced with mini tubs to gain much needed running clearance.
The 15x12 Centerlines hold 13x31 Firestone #9 compound slicks.

A 4 gallon cell was added to feed the Holley Blue Pump, which sends the fuel to a Fram filter, getting the dirt out before it heads to the front.
Behind the engine resides a 727 built with Turbo Action components and a an MP deep pan. A Cheetah manual valve body is connected to a Hurst Auto Stick 3, and a Turbo Action 3800 converter transfers power.

Out front, the current 383 houses a steel crank and rods, which are attached to TRW forged piston, yielding 10.2 compression.
Stock 906 heads with stock valves are employed, with the addition of Street Hemi valve springs that work with an MP 284/484 cam.
Up on top, an Edlebrock Tarantula intake holds a Holley mechanical 750.
A Moroso 8 quart pan and TRW hi-vol pump keep everything lubed and Fel-Pro gaskets keep the fluid contained. Exhaust is handled by McCandless "Pro-Parts" 2" headers.

The Pro-Parts are the only 2" primary header that I've never heard a complaint about. Good fit and good performance.

In it's current state, the best ET is 11.59. The old 440 they had in it rana  best of 11.29.
Chris is currently building a 440 based on the old engine using an Ultra-Dyne 613 cam and more compression to get
into the 10's.
Future plans call for 'glass body parts, a 12-point cage, and a 496 low-deck for the 9.90 zone.
