Single Digit Dart

Micheal Dyrlund hails from Denmark, so building this 69 Dart was, at the least, an exercise in patience.
Micheal notes that although there are lots of American race cars in the area, all the parts still need to come from the US, so shipping can hold you up for weeks.

Mike bought the car as a wreck in '89 and spent two years restoring it
He then drove it for three years with a stock 383 between the fenders.
The color is Porsche Karmin Red by the way. Once the racing bug  hit, he began
updating the car for the Nordic Pro-Street Cup in the 10.5" slick class.

Wheelwells were widened to allow 10.5" slicks, and a full chrome-moly cage was installed.

The battery was moved and a fuel cell installed, which feeds a BG400 pump. Front suspension upgrades are simply 6 cylinder t-bars and Koni adjustable shocks.
The hood and bumpers are Pro-Form 'glass items, keeping the car at the class minimun weight of 3200lbs.
A Pro-Trans 727 features a manual valve body and an 8"Dynamic converter.

The rear was shortened and fortified with
Summers brothers axles and a Strange spool holding 4.30 gears.
Tri-city leaf springs were installed under the frame along with MP long drag shocks.  Mike makes and sells the "3-link" bars shown above. He states that with these bars, standard oem leaf springs will survive 60' times in the 1.30's.
Can you believe the bottom of this car?! I've seen dirtier show cars. If someone tells mike to "keep the shiny side up", he wont know which side they mean :)

Inside, lightweight ATI seats were installed, along with Autometer gauges.
A Turbo Action shifter takes care of gear changes.

Notice the date on these pics...Welcome To The Twilight Zone.
That's why Mike's car is so fast. He's 6 months ahead of the rest of us :)

Mike is currently getting finishing touches on his new Muscle Motors' 496 engine. Custom valve covers are by Mike himself. The new shortblock features 14:1 compression and an Ultra-Dyne 700 lift cam.
A Ray Barton-ported Indy 440-1 package resides on top and is complemented by a BG 1050 Dominator and 2" spacer.
Spark is handled by MSD with a billet distibutor and 7AL2 box.
2" CPPA headers take care of exhaust along with 4.5" exhaust and 4.5" Flowmaster mufflers.
An MP lightweight starter gets it running and CPPA supplied the elephant ears.
The old package dyno'ed at 643hp and 588lbs. of torque, while the projected HP for the new combo is 835. That's nearly a 200hp upgrade!

Best performance to date is a quite respectable 9.69 @ 141.3.
Mike says he keeps tuning and keeps finding more
speed in the car. I'm sure this number will drop
even more before season's end. After this season, the motor
is going back to Muscle Motors for a compression increase to 16:1
and a nice big juicy cam to go with it...pretty soon
Mike will have to buy his speed parts from Boeing....
