I finally found that even without the headers in the way, the oil pan (a generic 7-qt pan from ebay) will not clear the K-frame. It's not close enough to just trim the lip on the K-frame, it's a couple inches at least even with the heads butting up to the firewall.

I've put B engines in A bodies twice before and never had to cut the K-frame or the pan... unfortunately it's been 25+ years so I can't remember which Moroso 7-qt pan I used. I have read through the oil pan threads here and I'm still confused as to what's wrong. Usually steering linkage issues are the problem, not the sump location with aftermarket pans.
