Rollbar time.
« on: November 24, 2006, 03:54:32 PM »

After looking at pics of my 63 launching on its only time to the track I feel the car is twisting some and don't plan to race it again until I put a 6 point bar in it.  It has frame connectors but still seems to be twisting more then I want.  My sons Dart was doing the same with frame connectors and when we welded the 6 point bar in it really stiffened the car and you can see how straight his Dart now launches.  I also plan to replace the springs and help the right rear from sagging.  My boys Dart started to show hair line cracks in the B-pillar paint so I want to make sure I don't start cracking the paint on my 63.  I will put the stock interior back in as I want to keep the car looking as stock as I can.  Ron

I agree with mopar stu Ron, both the roll bar and the Super Stock springs will help.
I remember back in 1979, after we bought our Hemi powered, 4 speed 1970 Cuda (not an original Hemi Cuda) and as we were taking it apart to start building it up for the Super Gas class, we found a VERY noticeable "kink" in the drive shaft tunnel!  Cry Since the car had been a race car, or show car it's whole life, we knew the "kink" was caused by sheer torque from the Hemi and 4 speed combo. Sure enough, when we took the car to a trusted frame shop here in Phoenix, the folks told us that the car was trying to twist itself in half and that the front frame rails had been bent almost 2 inches to the passenger side from being run so hard without frame connectors and a roll cage. The frame was fixed easily and we then installed frame connectors, wheel tubs and a well built roll cage.
