National Street Machine Club
« on: November 27, 2006, 11:52:41 PM »

So i got this packet in the mail today from the National Street Machine Club inviting me to join
It actually looks pretty interesting...the whole time i was looking for a catch because it just seems to good to be true...supposedly if i sign up for this club i will be given access to there website where i can state my cars and interests and they will send me products from various companies when they recieve them...i will get these products for free under the obligation that i fill out a review for each new product that i recieve...so basically i would be testing out new products and i get to keep them...sounds interesting enough to me...supposedly if i sign up i will get a welcome package and more information and if i dont want to be apart of it anymore i dont have to pay anything...if i decide to join the charge will be $1 per month
i dont know it really seems to good to me to be true....should i do it or not?...have any of you guys joned this club?...i am not gonna join anything until i do more research but it sure has my attention and i did my best to find any catches but after reading everything i found none  \/][

The one catch that I found is that if you go to their bulletin boards, there's one topic with a ton of replies called "Problems with the Club"

Pretty much, there's a bunch of people complaining that they get something in the mail, then they send it back because they don't want it, and get a "reminder" call that they need to mail it back or be charged. Apparently, their billing is outsourced to somewhere outside the country, so these little "messups" are pretty frequent, and the member gets stuck with the charge.

Sounds fishy to me, personally.

Yeah I joined a while back and to be honest i don't like them to much. Got calenders and books in the mail that you have to pay $30 or so if you want to keep them. So i'll send them back (which is a bit of a pain) and they just keep sending notices in the mail that i have to pay. So after about 3-4 letters i call them and tell the what happened and they usually fix it. Also just tons of worthless stuff in the mail, even a couple unwanted phone calls from them all just trying to get you to buy stuff. The product testing they had me do twice and both time it was tiny $0.99 polish thing. So i was unhappy with that. They also sell your name to other companys so you get even more junk mail. All and all i didn't like em and i'm 100% sure i'm not going to renew anything with them. I wouldn't recommend it but maybe i just had a bad experience. Good luck with it either way

I joined back in March and only received one magazine. I called to say I didnt get but one they said they would send all the missing issues. Never happened. They then sent a book on small block Chebbys. Ya just what i need. I sent it bac k and started receiving collection letters. I called cancelled subscription and within two weeks they refunded my $24.

That and the Handy Man club are a bunch of shit. Just a trap to send you trinkets of crap to try. the good stuff to try if there is any you have to pay more money to get to that level testing.

I joined when they started. I've received the magazines and a couple of worthless products to "test" (you have to apply to be a "tester" each time you get something). Received and paid for a couple of the first books they sent that I was interested in. Didn't care for anything after that and returned them (at my own expense). After returning a few they stopped sending them. No one has called.
