just want to give up? I have a totally dismantled '73 SSP that I bought to be my 15yo son's first car. Came with the original 400, dropped the pan and found two rods welded to the crank. Bought a 'running when pulled' 440 and pulled the heads to find and inch of water in #7 cyl and rings rusted to the cyl wall. Now I've bought another 400 from Richard (thebankerstoy) and I am pretty confident this one is finally good. The car needs to be roughed up with 600grit and painted before I start re-installing everything. My son and I rolled it ut of the garage on Sunday, pulled the steering column (I'm replacing it with a floor shift one), pulled the P/S box (replacing it with the one that mates to the floor shift column I have) and sat and looked at it for 20 mins before deciding there's too much work to be done and we rolled it back in the garage.

On numerous occasions! Maybe that is why the '67 convert is still sitting in the garage..... I have almost enough parts to get it re-suspended and the frame tied. Now all I have to do is find the time to do it. It'll be on the road next summer - I swear!

Its a lot like going to the dentist. You dread it starting out and then as you get into it you realize it isn't so bad. . I've had my duster done for about 2 years now and there's sometimes where I wish I had a project in the garage to work on again. don

Motivation comes and goes. It took us twice as long to get the Barracuda together as it should have, but there's life and baseball, too.

Hang in there. You've seen all my projects, and if I didn't walk away every once in a while, I'd go nutty. Like other's have stated, sometimes you just have to get going on it and before you know it, the day is gone and you got something done. Other times, you take 2 steps forward and 3 back. Try to forget about those days.
I have to make a 2-do list for every project. One so I know what to do and plan for and the joy I get crossing something off the list.

Thanks all...I guess my problem is more of prioritization than anything else. All three of my cars are in different stages of duress and I spend a little time with each. The BIG project (73 SSP) is soooooo over whelming though, I wonder if we'll ever get it done. I've never had a car totally taken apart before like this one and often times don't even know where to start, so I go out to the garage and stare at it for 20 mins and then close the garage door and go back inside... Oh well, my son is soon to be 16 and he is getting motivated to get it done, so we'll get 'er done...

Hey Mike, I know EXACTLY how you feel my friend. Back in 1989, I decided that it was time to start a major restoration on my 66 Coronet. I decided that the medium green metallic pant color looked MUCH better on military equipment than on my Coronet, so I realized that a TOTAL color change was in order. I stripped that beast down until EVERY single part that could be taken off of the car, was. After I did that, I stood in my garage, surrounded by all of those loose parts and suddenly realized that it was a LOT easier to take the car apart, than it was going to be to put her all back together again! I hung in there though, and with help from a couple of my friends, we did the body work, paint work, all new drive train, new suspension and a new interior. In other words, we completely rebuilt the entire car. It took two years to get the big stuff done and another year or so to do all of the smaller stuff, but when it all came together, it turned out to be one of my VERY favorite cars that I've ever owned, and I've had a LOT of fun cars in my life. So hang in there buddy and ENJOY spending QUALITY time with your AWESOME son and before you know it, that car will look like a million dollars and will run like a scalded cat!!! Next time your over, remind me and I'll show you all of the pictures from the Coronets restoration. There is a BIG difference in the "before" and "after" pictures! Let me know how that 400 turns out Mike and if you need any other parts, let me know and I'll take care of you if I have what you need. Richard

the thing i hate the most is...i will wake up in the morning excited to get something done on the car or put some new parts in...and it always seems like i spend the whole day and get hardly anything done...its pretty frustrating when you think you can do so much but you are held up by so many dang setbacks...

Don’t get down on your self! I got a 440 and sent it off to the shop for a rebuild, a week later it catches on fire... I rewired it.... it still wont start! I have replaced almost everything that I can afford and... still aint runnin! And while rewiring it I found a rust soy the size of a half dollar in my floor board! All I can say is this shit will happen! Just give it a few days "WEEKS!" and you will b right back at it!

Take a LITTLE break, no more. You need to keep going or you car will sit forever like mine did! Divide the work into little projects, that way you can see progress. Get it on the road as soon as you can so it's "fun" again. That'll provide some motivation. Maybe you don't respond well to words of encouragement, so "Get your @$$ out there and work on the f&#$ing car!!

My friend sounds like you only have a walk in the park left to get it done . It will come eventually I know where you are coming from though !How do you think you would feel if this is what you saw everytime you went to the garage? At least you can roll it in and out of the garage on it's own wheels.Yes I spend lots of time just looking at mine also . IF I HAD A FLOOR that I could bolt a seat to I would probably get in and make a few VVVRRROOOMMM VAARRROOOMMM noises. [attachment deleted by admin]

I'll be quiet now and get back to work on my rust-free southwestern jewel. Man, I can say without a doubt, I don't envy you guys that have to deal with rust...that is one thing I am VERY thankful of down here. Sorry...no more ranting from me. Back to work...I told my son, tonight before I came to work, this Saturday when I get off work (at 6AM, after working 12 hrs) we are rolling the SSP out and scuffing it up, then filling any nicks, and be done and ready for paint...I'm done screwing around with it.

I have almost given up several times. It all basically comes down to money. I have been offered a lot of money for my convert and haven't taken it b/c i want to give it to my kid if I ever have one. Also I have had the convert for 8 years and it was a piece of crap when I got it. Or at least the 340 car to the kid. I am currently not even looking at my cars b/c I am in one of those slumps. After my new tranny went bad and I missed the car show I worked to get it done to go to. Taking a breather. You have some sweet cars and in the end it is worth it.

Thanks -- my problem is I've been taking a breather for too long and am not motivated to get back to work. I think ya'll have lit a fire for me though. Hey -- I was just thinking of installing '71 recessed marker lights on this '73. Anyone ever seen it done to a '73+? I like to be a little different and think that would be a cool change... Notice my hoods on my A-bodies -- unique. I like the '73/4 RR hood too much (my all time favorite scoop) to go different there. We'll see... Now the gears are turning...

Satellite Sebring Plus? Yep... Some consider it a step below a Roadrunner, but I consider it a step above...SSP's were available with more options than the RR, other than drivetrain. The RR could be had with a 440...I don't think SSPs could. The interior trim package is much more desirable to me on the SSP over the RR too. Mine is a 400/727/8.75 drivetrain, A/C, power windows, 150mph ralleye dash, buckets with buddy seat, woodgrain inserts in door panels, etc... Pretty well optioned out. I'm swapping out the column shift for a floor shift column and going with a B&M Star shifter. I'm going to paint it FE5 (Ralleye Red) as original, add black RR stripes, and I already have a mint RR hood for it. I might throw a go-wing on it also, but I'm undecided there...not a big fan of them on 73+ B-bodies. Haven't totally decided on wheels yet...Richard (thebankerstoy) has a set of rims for me that will probably go on it after Christmas. I think they'll look pretty sweet on it --- these are the ones, I wish I had a better pic, I don't know what brand/style they are...maybe Richard will pipe in (thanks for the pic, Richard!) --->
