Iced In
« on: December 01, 2006, 04:10:14 PM »

It rained all day yesterday, and about 4:30pm it started to freeze. By 7:00pm we lost power, but it came back on at about 9:00pm, just as I got the generator running. I shut down the generator and about 10:30pm. Woke up this morning freezeing our A$$ off. I got up, got the generator going again, it ran about an hour and quit. My 10 gallon auxilary tanks feed fittings solder joint had failed and there was a 1/2" stream of gas running out the bottom of the tank. The generator was sitting half in and half out of the garage. Good thing the gas did not hit the HOT MUFFLER. Mean while the neighbor came over and asked if we could run drop cords to his houseto power his sump pump, the water was almost to his floor in a finished basement.
I got the generator running again on the 1 gallon primary tank only to run out of gas. The neighbor and I used his 4 wheel drive to go the 10 miles to town. We now have 35 gallons of gas on hand. I have spent the rest of the day in the shop (with out power, on a seperate meter) fixing the auxilary tank. Just got it back on the generator.

No estimation of when the power will be back on. There are thousands of homes without power right now, for many miles around. Running on the generator sucks, even though it is a 5000 watt unit, yuo have to really limit what you use.

Limps down all over in our yard and the subdivsion.

HOPE THE POWER COMES BACK ON SOON !!!!!

Glad youy got your generator straightened out. I have my generator ,from my racecar trailer, at my house for the winter. So far I have, the generator full, and 25 gallon sitting in the garage. I also have 4 more 5 gallon jugs to fill up. It doesn't do any good having a generator, if I don't have any gas to run it for a few days. I take the generator out of the trailer the past 2 winters. Never needed it yet.

I had a similar situation 2 weeks ago, we got lot's of rain and I always get water in the basement.  No big deal... usually.  Then the power went out for 6 hours and I got about 4' of water in the basement  explode I've tried to run my pump with the generator I use at the races but it doesn't have enough power to run the pump.  I will get a bigger one soon, that's always my biggest fear, water comming in and no power.

I just got dug out an hour ago. I have been stuck because the road grader had not came by yet to bail my butt out. We got 15 inches with ice under it. I have not lost power so I am still good. I installed a wood stove this year so I can heat with or without power. Herb I am feeling your pain. God I got to get off this computer I keep spending money LOL

The prower just came back on. At least I don't have to spent all night re-fueling and checking the generator.

Hope  it last !
