This car is for sale about 30 miles from me. It is going to be for my 16 year old nephew. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270061986417 I need a car that is dependable and reliable. This car appears to be both. It will only be used around town, no long highway trips. I wanted to get him something that I know how to work on. I am going to try and go look at it tomorrow. What do you all think that this car is worth? Thanks in advance for your responses, it's good to have a resource like to turn to.

Looks like a fairly decent car. I'd say somewhere between 1200-2500 should get it.

I showed it to my nephew, and when he saw the interior, he said "That 70s car!!" He is really excited.
The owner emailed back and said that it recently passed state inspection, and that the brakes were replaced 2000 miles ago with the tires. He said he is OK with me coming to look at it.
If all is OK, how much should I offer him cash? Or should I just put my max bid on Ebay?

man you are the coolest uncle ever, must have rubbed off on the kid too, most kids would hate that interior,i really dig it too.i would offer him $1200 and go from there, worst case is you will have to bid on it or offer more $.i would say 2k is the most i would pay though, but that's here and it may be harder to find a car like that over there.good luck hopefully we will have a new member to the site soon.

Some nut here on LI had a Duster with a slant six for sale a while back. I pulled over to look at it and almost fell over when I saw the 7000 dollar price tag. Someone else is selling a 67 Dart GTS with a six, very original, 6800 bucks. Ten years ago, I spotted a 70 Sport Satellite. I called on it, the kid answered the phone and said we're lookin' to get 5 for it. I said I'll be right over. You guessed it. 5 grand for a 318. Was clean, though. I can't wait until only car people have all the cars. People who think everything is a Hemi Cuda drive me nuts.

Looks pretty sweet. I paid $700 for my 74 and it has a lot more rust in it then that car does.

Love that interior, well not really. If I was in the market and that car was close to me I would consider giving $2k for it. Offer $1k cash and see what he says.

I received a email from him this am saying that he will take $2500 to pull the auction, and that the car is buried in snow right now (they got almost a foot of snow of Thurs night). I was thinking about offering a grand cash. If he thinks it's worth $2500, his reserve is pretty high, it probably won't sell on Ebay. I think I see a few toys in the yard, that means he has kids. Christmas is in 3 weeks, might change his mind the closer we get to the holidays. If not, oh well, I'll keep looking. Thanks for the kind words about being a great uncle. Just thought I'd give a little background. Three years ago, my little sister was diagnosed with inoperable cancer. She had a son 14 and another 9 months old. One of her last requests was that my wife and I take the 14 year old, and raise him as our own. What can you say to your dying sister? The last few years have been very turbulent to say the least and it has almost cost me my marrage. The boy fell into the wrong crowd at his new highschool, got involved with drugs, and even got kicked out of school for 10 days. With the grace of God and help from others, we have begun to change this young man's life around. He has gotten back into sports, and is now a three sport athlete (football, wrestling, and baseball). He has started helping me work on the Dart again, which has brought us closer. This car is a way to reward him for his hard work. Plus it's the first car that he's wanted that wasn't a ricer of some type! Not looking for sympathy, just thought I would let everyone know where I was coming from. Thanks for everyone's help on this one. If this car doesn't work out, I be back looking for help and advice on another one I am sure.

It's tough to keep kids out of trouble. They just have to learn for themselves. I've been lucky with my son. He's 17 and he's a good kid. My girlfriend hasn't been as lucky with her 14 year old daughter.

I still think I'd go look at it. $2500 isn't really out of line, but it is on the high side. Even with the snow you can see how the top of the car is. Or, you can bid on it and see what happens.

why don't you just just tell the boy[i don't know his name].. ifn he want's this car meet him dollar for dollar? up to say 1250$....for a good running car [and a nice straight mopar] 2500$ isn't far fetched....you could get something cheaper that needs a lot of work but if it's totally undrivable,it may be a little unpracticle....but it could be something you guys do together....lots of differnet option's

He has plenty of money, that's not the problem. Spending $2000 on a 32 year old car sight unseen is the problem.

Does your nephew really want a duster? I've alot of 73 Swingers on ebay...cheap. Oh and by the way 73 Swingers are the coolest. I originally thought I wanted a 69 Swinger 340, but you can't get one around here for under $20k (canadian). I bought my 73 because it was so clean (original paint and factory sunroof), then I realized that 73 was a one year only bodystyle. with the later style grille and the 70-72 rear. Also I'm builing a sleeper, and every chevy guy knows that 73's only came with 318s ....right? [attachment deleted by admin]

He wants anything that will separate him from home. Seriously, this car is approx 30 miles from my house, and is the first clean Mopar that we have come across lately. I'm sure there are some good deals out there, but I don't want to transport or drive a car across country.

Definately go look at the car. Make him an offer of $1500 or $2000 and walk away if you need to. HOWEVER, having seen the car will give you a big edge over anyone else bidding on ebay. You'll know when to keep bidding or when to let someone else have it. If it's clean, I would pay up to probably $2,500 for a clean slant six or up to double that for a clean V8 (assuming I was in the market for one). Good luck with the car and your boy....

Well, I went and looked at it today. About what I expected. Started right up, no strange noises. Did have a little rust peaking through on BOTH quarters and a little around the windshield, not really a concern though, car probably won't survive the boy long enough to start thinking about replacing sheet metal. Top is ripped at the back, but doesn't seem to be rusting. Trunk was solid but wet, no jack. It is a manual drum brake car, does that mean SBP wheels? No drips underneath, concrete was dry. Power steering seemed to work ok, he said the air blew cold last summer. Has a Kenwood CD player and some cheap 6X9s in the back. Interior was about as shown, carpet shot, front seat starting to crack but not shredded. Guess I'll place my bid and see what happens. Wish me luck!

I won the car for $1814. Not too bad. I was ready to bid up to $2k, but the bidding had stalled at $1k for several days. My nephew is stoked and wants to go pick it up tonight, but he has a wrestling tournament later. Told him that we could go get a cashiers check tomorrow after school and pick up the car tomorrow night. He won't be able to sleep tonight. I had to explain the process of licensing a car, and insuring it also. Then we leave for a weeks vacation on Saturday!!
