Being a homeowner is tiring
« on: December 02, 2006, 07:47:57 AM »

Hi all, im still around, but havent been on a whole lot. I love being a homeowner now, but geez, there is so much to do just so you can really start to live in a house. Since we moved in a month ago i have been almost non-stop on "small" projects to get done. I have wired and plumbed for a dishwasher, a dryer, done some electrical work(grrrrr-old houses), building a new hallway, among many many other things. Still, i wouldnt give it up to rent again. Its just going to take a bit to get it how we want it. We managed to get one of the toys in the garage, if i can find time before the snow flies, and get the garage in some type of order, i will see about retrieving the other 2 from there current place of rest at a friends house. Well, i'll just browse around here for now, just wanted to let you all know i havent left here, just been real busy. You can always PM or email if you want something, just might take me a day or to to get to it.

No more landlord to rely on. Isn't that great. You'll always have a dozen little projects to tidy up around the house. But like you said, It's YOUR house!

I feel your pain Chad, we moved into our new house close to 3 months ago now and I still cant see the Demon in the garage or have a day off without painting, fixing or moving stuff but it's a good tiring!

Lots of joys with a house, but the best is plumbing.   And don't get me started on the rest

wWelcome to home ownership, it ain't easy. The Kidd and I finally put together a 10*12 storage building last wednesday evening and moved alot of stuff out of garage into it.Then we shoved the DART inside the garage. The temp was 71 degrees that day, now its a high of 36 today. Heck its too cold to even work in garage.

weve had our house 3 years. i took about a year off from the first major project. upstairs was a complete gut job. bathroom and 2 bedrooms. all wiring, beefing up bad joist. plumbing... it was ok. i hate the demo and cleanup part. worked on m cars fo rabout a year and a bunck of other miscl. projects. this summer i planted at least 30 plants and shrubs. some of which my dogs killed. tried a garden, my dogs snuck in and ate half of my stuff.... came back form my wedding and gutted my living room and dining room apart. removed the wall between the 2 rooms, opend up my stairs, put in a 4x12 laminate beam in for that.  some framing, removed the old ducts that fed upstairs, put new ones in better locations, now i have to patch drywall in my fresh stuff upstairs. all electrical, had no lights in the cieling, hardly any outlets.  ill have to do a little plumbing, move the main waste line.... it just doesnt end. always finding better ways for something. the best part is im already wishing i did the bathrooom a little different. my guess is 2 or 3 years and that is coming out. all of this in a balloon framed house from the '20s.  nothing is standard, nothing is easy. anything i touch involves 10 other things. its all a big project. its fun though. i have to say, it keeps me out of trouble.

JAMESDART are you surewe didn't buy the same house.ballon framing ,rewiring etc.The bad part is somebody already hung drywall throughout the house, but didn't rewire or insulate,so know i get to tear it back out and redo it.
