Topic: Cost of a torch set-up (Read 276 times)

I have a friend of a friend that is trying to sell his oxy-acetaline torch set-up. It's got the tanks, cart and everything with it. He is asking $200. Is this a good deal? I have no idea what this type of set-up typically costs. On another note, what types of stuff can you use this set-up for? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

sounds decent as long as the hoses and torch head are in decent shape. the bottle deposits on a new unit are outrageous down here almost 200 for the two bottles filled. the bottle filling isnt squat after you have a bottle

The bottles are the big thing. I was given a setup years ago, but could never justify the purchase of bottles considering the fequency I would use it.

see, thats the thing. I don't know how much I'll use them. Although, thats what i thought about my mig welding machine before I bought it. Now I find things I can weld with it all the time. I just don't know how much I would use an oxyacetylene torch. I guess I can always sell it on craigslist or something.

Not a bad price. You might want to make sure your tanks are up to date.I forget how often they certify the tanks but they might give you a haggle trying to fill them or i guess they can certify them for you.I have a set of mini-bottles.They are out of date but i haven't had the chance to take them to get filled so i don't know how much of a haggle their going to give me.Just might want to check into it.It might be an extra cost you weren't counting on.

Lots of welding supply stores will swap them out. Depending upon what size, TSC will swap it too. Some places they do not look too closely at the bottles when they swap them - this is how I got good bottles for my MIG

nice to have, but there really arent that many uses on a car, too much heat. a mig is more practical for any welding on a car. here, you cant have a cylinder filled by any place but where its from. they ususally have a sticker right on it, the name cast around the top and the paint job might be different from one supplier to the next. it seems like the guys dont look but the color would be the first giveaway. we dont have tsc in nj so that is not an option. i set my torch up last year after sitting on the stuff forever. both cylinders including fill and deposit, plus a new 25' hose was around 500. its nuts, but i guess a lot of cylinders dissapeer. another thing, certain sizes you have to have an accountm if you dont have an account, you cant fill them. the only way to get an account is to put a deposit on the cylinders. they have it pretty well covered. they got a lot of my money considering, i have a big oxy, big acetylene, big strait argon, and a smaller 75/25. makes me want to throw up when i think about it.
