Has anyone here every made there own hydraulic press? I've got a ton on steel a few random bottle jacks. I'm thinking I can probably make something up to do what I need it to. Has anyone done this?

I haven't but there's not much to it. I suggest that if you make one you make it with enough space between the sides on the table to fit an axle flange into. Just get some pics of different presses and use the best features of each one.

Go find one for sale and snap some digital pics and take some measurements. That's gotta be an easy tool to make. I made a ladder bar thing for my buddy's Camaro by ordering one, copying it and sending it back. worked mint.

Evan, I have a 12 ton HF special (79 bucks on sale plus a 20% coupon) that I can snap pics of an take measurements. I used it for a year and half before my buddy maxed it out and bent the weld on the ram. (Yo Ritchie) I always knew I'd have to beef it up and add some micarta blocks to tighten it up but I just haven't needed it in a while so it sits. This thing pressed a lot of things in and out before the cheesy welds from china gave up the ghost.

I've made one exactly like you are talking about using a 10T bottle jack. One thing you have to watch out for is that the bottle jack stays upright, it won't pump any oil if you invert it. So you have to make the "ram" part to be able to hold the base of the bottle jack. I used heavy "garage door" type return/extension springs to bring the weight of the jack and ram back up when you release it. worked really nice

Another thought is to build a press frame that will make use of a portapower ram and then you will have a stationary press as well as a portible press.
another idea, if you have the room! find an old farm truck or go to a reasonable salvage yard and take the hoist unit from a dump bed truck and make it into a very large press. With a large enough pump motor you can press anything you want. Imagination is your only limit!!!!
