What would be the correct way to disconnect the steering shaft from the steering box? Thanks.

disconnect it from the couple, you will need to replace the cover seal anyway. and new kits can be bought from chrysler.

I just knocked the rollpin out the back and used a large screwdriver to pry the coupler back, the column slides up enough to get it off. No wasted money on parts.
