Thanks guys - I still have to drill the holes in it for all the junk that needs to feed through (coil wire, nitrous line, halon line, wires, etc.) but they'll be centered right behind the motor so it won't look cluttered (I hope).  I think I'm going to go without a speedo as well.  I don't want to put another hole in the firewall just for that damn cable.  We'll see though... anything could happen LOL

Very nice job done so far. I am going to do the same but piece by piece, not a whole section. Just put in a piece where the wiper motor, heater, lines for a/c and such were that will no longer be on mine. Only want a cleaner look, dont need to make room for anything like a shield or such. Tomorrow I am going to talk to a local welder thats been in the business since the 70s so hopefully I can learn alot from him and I can do this in a few months.

Sure - If you remember the stock joint between the firewall and the kick panels is tied together with a flange that points outward.  What I did was separate that joint, and since I slanted the bottom half of the firewall back farther, I used that extra material and rolled it inward, so there was no more protruding lap joint.  The result is a nice square corner that is plenty strong (overlap is inside) and much more cosmetically pleasing.  After that, I couldn't stand looking at the joint at the top where the fender ties to the firewall, so I made a plate to cover it all up.  It didn't show up too well in the pics because I had put rust proofer on the metal before I decided to do this.  If you really need better pics just say the word!

Hope this answers your question.
