I think they mean 3/8 - 24 tpi male on one side, female on the other. The picture is not correct for the description.
A typical steel brake line has a flare and male flare nut, which is like the male inverted flare. That needs to seat against a female (internal threads) inverted (cone up) seat. A male flare fitting would have the external threads and ends of the fitting chamfered at a 45 deg (if SAE), inverted male has the internal opening chamfered at 45 degrees. The male flare fitting would mate to a flare nut (female) on a steel line with a flare. An inverted male fitting would fit against an inverted female flare fitting. folla? I hope I got that right...
first pict. is a female inverted flare (mates to a steel brake line and male flare nut) second is a male inverted flare (mates to a female inverted seat fitting)

Are you looking to replace your factory rubber brake hoses with the steel braided stainless hoses? I got a set(front calipers/rear axle) from The Right Stuff Detailing. They fit like the're supposed to and look real trick too.If you want some pics let me know and I'll shoot a few and post them. I think the 3 line kit costs about $85 if I remeber right. www.rightstuffdetailing.com 71
