Well I just bit the bullet and bought the cal-track setup. I stopped by yesterday to look at the car, getting mini-tubbed and moving springs to the frame. He suggested getting a new set of traction bars. So you guys and gals corrupted me soo much, that today just spent over $1200 with mancini racing for the springs cal-tracks, shocks (front and back), new intake and some miscellaneous chrome. I believe that the new paint job may have to wait until next year. I had a budget of $5000 for this winter. Hopefully to get painted and new wheels as well. I'm already at $4000 after this purchase, no wheels, paint, or minitub. Am I the only person that spends waaaayyyy too much on their car?

Some people love their bank accounts much more than their car, but I think we all feel the same way. Its pretty easy to be over budget the more you get into your project.

i have a simple formula.......what ever you think it will cost, triple it ; and how long you think it will take, triple it twice.

I'm already at $4000 after this purchase, no wheels, paint, or minitub. Am I the only person that spends waaaayyyy too much on their car? NO, your not. I started my project in 2/06. Damn good thing I'm not married cause I'd be divorced by now. "Lucy" is very good at spending spending money. I now have 40K in her and expect to drop another 15K before she's done. ;DPam (my "signifigant other") comes down every Sat. afternoon just shaking her head and leaves on Mon morning. She says this is why we don't "mix funds" or get married. Seems to me like a perfect situation My sons are 28 & 30 so what else do I have to spend money on? I will admit my IRA and SEP hasn't seen a contribution since this started but I think the return is better on this project, but of course Pam says "my thought process is flawed". She is shopping around for "60's" style clothing to "play the part" at the car shows. Gotta love it, life is good. [attachment deleted by admin]

Over $15K and 2 years in our daily driver, including original car purchase, all mechanicals, bodywork/paint and interior..
It runs just fine, but there is always something to add or work on. I just ordered a front sway bar kit from Summit, so that install is next on the list.

Bought my car in almost mint condition it cost about 22K by the time I got it. ( Texas ) , Two years latter I had to tear it apart because I didn't like the color and I wanted bigger tires on it. I have spent over 40K in the last 2 years. This is the reason I should not be allowed to have one of these cars. Don"t know when to leave good enough alone. I guess you can"t take it with you.

I only have $5-6K invested (with purchase of the car) and it hurts, especially being young. It makes me feel sick thinking of being in $60K. For that much I better have two cars done...

Yea, me too. I'm pretty young as well (22), have a decent job, but that's still lots of money. I'm kindof the budget kindof guy and try to stick to one, but i guess if it comes to my car, There are no limits on doing it right the first time.

I'm pretty young too, 23. The way I figure it I can build the ultimate car for around 30-35grand, where as most people would go out and buy the new z06 for double that.

Compared to the cost of a new vehicle that's going to depreciate 20% the minute you drive it off the lot I'd say 25-40K into a daily driver that's unique, personalized, hand built, custom, and fast as hell is a pretty good bargain. And it's only going to go up.
Price out a new Charger or a new Ram with a Hemi. OUCH! Want a SRT? Add another 15K to the price. Is it unique? Not really. Any bum with money can own one and never appreciate it.
You just don't see classic muscle on the street that often, and when you do, regardless of brand, you can truly appreciate the art engraved in the lines that run from bumper to bumper.
It's got lines that will never go out of style.
There's more to our cars than the car itself. It's got history, it's matured. It's got an owner that knows everything there is to know about it. It's been written about and admired by our fathers and grandfathers.
It's been photographed thousands of times for thouosands of magazines and read about by children who dream of owning one some day.
It's a dream come true.

I'm 25 and I own two project cars, one project Jeep, and drive a pickup that I use for picking up parts and tools. If I had any common sense, I'd sell everything, stop renting a garage and buy a house - but you only live once.

8k buy in 1k to move it out here easily 2k in just "stuff" to get it closer to where I like.
I could toss another 10k in and not not feel guilty at all and still have a ways to go.

stated with a budget of 7-10k (not including buying new tools) passed that about 9 months ago and still have about another 10k to put into it before it will be time to start all over again. It still isnt street worthy but I did take it up the street for the 1st time in 2 1/2 years a couple of weeks ago. , hopefully in a few months it will be road worhy but not completed. all it takes is time and MONEY.

This is a great thread, it just goes to show how sick we are. But you know I would rather put the money into my car then to give it to a shrink!!! I have 14K in my 440 stroker motor Indy heads and another 15K into parts for my 70 Dart race car and 70 Roadrunner street car. That is in 1.5 years and neither car is done yet. It sounds like a lot of money and it is a lot of money, but it sure is a lot of fun!!! God bless us all!

...Although she has never rode in a fast car.......we'll see how it goes when I turn it loose and start grabbing gears. heh. at one of the racelegal events Ive been attending, a lady friend of mine wanted to go for a ride-along on one pass in the dust-buster. ever tried to drive/cut a decent RT with a ultra-high pitched screaming woman sitting in the passenger seat? and this was just during the burnout!! (especially when shes already pissed off about cramming her hair into a rented brain bucket)...it tends to be just a little on the distracting side. oddly enough, she wants to go again. /shrug such a fun lifestyle we've adopted
