I used a torch. A buddy of mine said he sprayed the underside with deisel. What a mess / odor that must have made.

ya i like to get all the big chunks off with the torch first....and then final cleanup can be made with chemicals

I used a propane torch for the bulk layer and bought a gallon of Goof-Off at Home Depot. Put Goof-Off in a spray bottle to apply. It dissolved the residue immediately which I then wiped off with rags.

I did a similar thing, but I used a torch and snapon 3 scraper set (curved ones and hooks ) then had the whole body sandblasted.. But goofoff sounds like a great idea.

Personally, I don't care for the idea of an open flame around that stuff. Im using a decent heat gun and scrapers, then will sandblast. Have already tried the process inside a front fenderwell, and seems to be just what's needed. (Now if only I could win the lotto so that I could retire, and have ample time to actually get more done on the car.)

Number one thing is time. I used a torch. Probably not the healthiest idea, but it did the trick. I am not sure if I am going to get it blasted or not, not to excited about sand in every nook and cranny for the next 30 years.

If it's really hardened the Eastwood stuff doesnt work save your money, I used a good heat gun and scraper followed by mineral spirits....

I did a 67 Barracuda, I tried solvent and it would'nt touch it. Seems it was pariffin based. I used a heat gun and scraper. My 62 Savoy was a regular tar based undercoat and I used the heat gun/Scraper again, then sand blasted it in my garage. "Man What a Mess" Don't Do That !!! Jack

i just did my fenders. i used paint stripper, and sandblasted the jamb and headlite area. i ran a light grinder on the back side of the skin, and hand sanded the knooks and crannys with 80; then i coated them with rust bullet http://www.rust-bullet.com/ its designed to go over sound rust and bare metal. stuff works great. now i can do what ever i want to these. gonna scratch em a little for adhesion, shoot some 3m paintable body shutz (with an undercoat gun) and topcoat body color. i do the outside of the inner fenders, the back side of the bumper filler/front valence, and rear wheelwells the same way. i try to keep the underbelly somewhat smooth, but some areas will get the shutz. everything body color.

I used a 4" angle grinder with a wire wheel. Never again. Friend used a heat gun with a scraper that worked really well.

Thanks dubb. I'm thinking that the rocker shutz is a good idea. Thick enough to protect the under side of the fender from small pebble and rock dings.
