Here is a site that sells a battery in trunk relocation kit with a second trunk located starter solenoid to keep the starter wire NOT hot except when starting. http://www.madelectrical.com/catalog/tm-1.shtmlShould make things much safer.

It takes a Mopar to catch a Mopar.

I agree, but you see it everywhere. To be safe the battery should be in a sealed box and vented outside. I would also hope that the cell was vented properly outside. Still a little scary though.

Here is a picture of how NOT to do it, but 30 years ago there were no kits available. Luckely, I have never been in a crash. Think of how much a 40# battery weighs when it trys to stop from 100 mph to 0 in a couple of seconds. As long as it is in a sealed and properly vented box, and is held down with two 3/8" bolts that clamp down over the battery, it should be pretty safe.

If so that rocks Ryan

I guess the battery is missing so it's hard to see the riveted in plastic battery tray and vinyl tie down strap. Yes it is an aluminum 15 gallon beer keg. It only cost about $100 to have welded up including $5 for the keg at a flee market and was way cheaper than replacing the tiny 11 gallon gas tank that came in the car. And I know you are wondering what I'm doing in a Mopar forum, but I have been researching putting late B-model spindles on my control arms to fix a welded up and redrilled bolt pattern change that came out .1" out of round.

It's a '72 Volvo 1800e that had a 4cylinder engine that I stuffed a Volvo 6 cylinder into about 30 years ago. If I put the Mopar late B-spindles on the bolt on front suspension from another model Volvo, it will have room for a V8. Next project is to find a good Jeep forum to join and see if I can find an '86 only Jeep CJ wide track Dana-44 rear axle that is 54.5" wide flange to flange. Here it is on You Tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKn-LTNa4rc
