at work, one of my co workers decided to destroy a rear end out of a 98 jeep grand cherokee. (he decided to do axle seals and not refill the diff) we're replacing the customers diff and i can take any of the useful stuff off of the junk one. my question is, is this the correct year of cherokee that i can pull the rear disc stuff of the diff. to convert my 8 1/4? if this will work, what other parts do i need to take besides the caliper mounting brackets and backing plates? would these parts also work on an 8 3/4? thanks for the replies.... prolly wrong section too, apologies in advance...

Take every thing that you can. You will have to make something for the E brake cable.

the bracketry and backing plate dont need any modifiction, but the bolts for the calipers will hit the leaf springs so its a little hard putting it all together in the car. (ive got my diff out of the car) the e brake system is different so im trying to find how other people have made them work... its a little challenge, but for what im paying, i cant complain...

I started into something similer last year. I'm not shure what year cherokee the axle was from, but this might help you out. look for rear disk retrofit in the chassis forum.......you might have to dig a little. there are pics I took as I went along. maybe you can come up w/ something I overlooked to make this work.

i found the old posts you suggested and see what youre talking about. i dont know if you noticed, but im doing this swap on an 8 1/4. i didnt realize the differences between the 8 1/4 and the 8 3/4 flanges, since im too poor and dont own one. im pretty sure this will work well for my set up, and i can take pics for anyone whos interested. either way. when i figure out the e brake cable situation, ill post something...
