All 273 engines were painted Chrysler red along with the 1968 318 and 340's. All 67-68 383's were painted a medium blue/green. For 69 all 383's and the rare 440 were painted Hemi orange also used on 69 to late built 71 340's and all 440's installed in Cudas and Challengers. During the two years the Hemi was used in the Cudas and Challengers the color was Street Hemi orange. This color is brighter than Hemi orange. To duplicate the factory look paint all Hemi blocks with Ditzler EQE-60626 orange paint. When painting the four barrel 383 or the 440 add the DX-265 flattening agent at a ratio of one part agent /three parts paint. Most 70-71-383 4 bbl and 440's were painted Hemi orange but some with the shaker hood option were painted turquoise. All 383 2 bbl were painted turquoise. Beginning in late 71 all 318's and 340's were painted chrysler Blue as was the 74 360's. This is from a Cuda/Challenger resto manual. Just how correct do you want to be?Huh

Got the paint from Mancini and motor is painted.  Paint would have been cheaper at Jeg's, but was in a hurry and didn't check around.  Steve

OK, hold the phone here! I've seen BOTH red AND turquoise on '68 340 engines. Both claiming to be OE on the color and magazine reports are the same, as far as beng OE correct. There has to be a pattern or something. Like a particular plant is using one while another one is using the other. Anyone wanna give me the poop on what the story is?? Both colors were on Darts and Barracudas. From what I've seen, magazines and in person, that year seems to be interchangeable.
