Any regrets?
« on: February 05, 2007, 08:40:49 PM »

Just curious if any of you that guys that painted your undercarriages body color regretted it?  I'm almost done with all the fabrication on the car and it's going back to get at least the trunk and under hood painted again.  I am very close to having the whole car repainted because I am not happy with the color and the guy painting it now says he won't charge much because all the bodywork is done so it would be a scuff and spray.  The undercarriage is totally stripped, cleaned, and rust free.  It's at least going to be painted with eastwoods chassis black, but I have been thinking about having it painted body color.  The whole suspension/drivetrain is powdercoated and new, so either way it should look good.
Anyone have experience with this?  Will it chip real easy?  This is going to be a street car with trips to both the dragstrip and road courses like Limerock and Watkins Glen.

I appreciate any input. thank you

if i ever paint the bottom of my car ill do it in black. maybe satin black. i see no need for it to be body color. if you change the body color even just a hint, it will look stupid without repainting the bottom, at least black is black and will go with any color.

Same here.  Especially for a driven car, not a trailer queen.  Not saying that every painted car is a trailer queen, but black is easy to touch up, and still looks really nice cleaned up.  I know it is not Mopar gospel but is just makes sense to me.

you know  i agree with the other guys on if you ever change colour that's one aspect.....also if you drive on really bad[gravel] roads....but a painted undercariage look the best by far..and if you use a "endura" paint under their it's very durable....

Dan, it's called ENDURA paint, and when I do the rotisserie resto on my car, the undercarrige will be going body color with endura.  In my opinion it looks better. My dad did his about 8 years ago, and it still looks like it was just done, after lots of street miles, and 8 seasons of racing.

if it was'nt a matter of $ for me I'd do it,but it's really up to you because you are the only one who is going to be able to appreciate it.or get upset if it gets chipped.I had just finished my undercarriage a few years ago and unavoidably drove over some freshly spilled paint and splattered everything, luckily it was latex based but it still sucked.

Excuse my ignorance, but can you buy endura paint in any color?  Any idea of what it costs, or where to find out how much it costs?  The color is going to be a real Curious yellow, not the school bus/curious yellow I have now.

Endura is avail in any colour imaginable. Much cheaper than base clear or acrylic enamel, my dad works for Endura, and I think the only place you can get it is Edmonton where they are located, they do ship all across the continent, but are based out of Edmonton.  I'll check for more info with my dad. Great paint and extremely strong. Both mine and may dads are done in it and look great.  Scampin, where are you located?

Should the whole car be painted with this or is this only for the undercarriage?  I am in Albany, Ny.

I asked about locations of where to get, and forgot, but I believe he said they have distribution centers in Chicago, San Fransisco, and Dallas. Scampin, both my car and my fathers are done with Endura, completely, and there are many cars around here that are done with Endura as well.  Cisco, I am no expert on painting, but have been told that it is more difficult to spray than base clear or anything else. My first time ever using a paint gun was last winter painting my AAR hood with the endura, and I found it fairly easy, but have nothing to compare it to. One thing for sure is that you need a really good mask or respirator, very potent stuff, my garage smelled for a couple weeks, and I've got a huge fan in 1 wall.  I'm not trying to sound like a salesman, but just speaking from experience, its great stuff, shiny, and super tough.  If you do spray it , wear a good mask or better yet a fresh air system. Endura is REALLY bad to breath in!

I know you said much cheaper and there are many variables in price/quality levels of regular paint systems. Just looking for a ball park.
