Topic: Need suggestions - New Hood with Scoop (Read 416 times)

My new motor and intake combo will not allow me to use an air cleaner, so it looks like I need a taller scoop. Currently have a fiberglass hemi ss hood and the Dominator is just touching the top of the scoop on the inside. Intake consists of an Indy 440-3 single plane, 1 inch HVH spacer and a Dominator carb. Even if I removed the spacer, not really any room, so I thought I'd ask some of you guys with big scoops what you might suggest....
Also, anyone heard of Unlimited Products? They're in Hesperia, CA (so cal) and seem to produce a very large volume of fiberglass parts, include Dart parts. Thanks!

i had about the same set up as you do at one time. i sectioned the hemi scoop with a 2" strip of aluminum. it gets pretty tall and has to have 3 to 4 bolts in sleeves at the front to keep it down at speed. i don't like the chevy type scoops but some times you gota do what you gota do.

West, What did you buy from them and why weren't you happy with it?

i bought a hood with retainers to bolt onto hinges.not only did the retainers not line up nor were they spaced properly but they were different on each side.so no matter what measurements were made any retard could have noticed each side was different.the gellcoat was also thin in a few spots.but all that aside what really pissed me off was the unwillingness to pay the shipping to take it back, making me call them DOZENS of times and leaving me on "eternal" hold.it is a good thing they are several hundred miles away or i'd be in a jail cell right now.when i said i was about to drive down there and get my refund they said "go ahead i dare you",famous last words huh?yea it was ugly,i just wrote it off and said f-it.i was'nt going to let them ruin the fun of my build, just another detour i guess.but i will do anything i can to see they don't sell another piece of junk to anyone.

I bought a AMX type scoop from them in person. They were nice enough on the phone too...The scoop was sub-par in quality and it is now living somewheer in the rafters in my garage..
I think AAR has some the best products. I was gonna install their SixPack hood on my Dart but decided to go with a OEM GTS metal hood.

West, Thanks for taking the time to explain.... I think your comment, along with guzzimike's, is enough for me not to want to deal with them. I spoke with Unlimited today on the phone and they did seem nice enough and I would always rather deal with someone local if I have a choice. But not if their stuff is not up to snuff. They also want 100% payment up front.

If you want good quality, the only choice is AAR. My six pak hood for my Duster was just beautiful right out of the box, I was expecting to get something that looked like my buddy's Unlimited hood (rough), boy was I surprised. If the car was white, I could have just bolted it on and been done, the gelcoat looked almost as good as white paint. There was absolutely no body work required except for light sanding, then paint. Everything lined up perfect. [attachment deleted by admin]

The AAR hood I got was not that good. It is a very nice hood with some trimming on the edges. But the top of the hood is not very straight. I have some low spots in the hood that need some work before I can paint it. Other wise they have very good bumpers and trunk lid.

Appreciate all the comments so far...
But, does anyone have any feedback for the type of scoop they run? I will need probably a 7-9" tall scoop. That basically leaves me with either a tall cowl hood or a prostock-type hood. Does anybody run these tall scoops?? Pros/cons cowl vs. prostock?? I think a cowl would look more natural on a Dart, but it doesn't appear that AAR even makes a cowl hood that tall.

If you need a scoop that tall I think a cowl would be your best bet. www.glasstek.com can make you one. I had a 5" tall Hemi scoop from AAR that was nice.

I was thinking of ordering the Glasstek Hemi Dart scoop, has anyone used them? is this a good scoop, or is it worth the extra $100 for the AAR Hemi scoop?
