I saw a hood similar to this at the Columbia Mo swap meet two weeks ago. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=012&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=220083104941&rd=1&rd=1The guy paid $850 for it and thought that he had gotten a good deal. He told me about one that went for $1300 on Ebay a few weeks back. So I told him about this one that I paid $200 for last summer in KC. Are these really worth that much? I was planning on buying a fiberglass six pack style hood til this one fell into my lap. For what these things are going for I could sell mine and use the proceeds to buy the fiberglass hood, have it painted, buy the light weight hood springs and hood pins, and still have a couple hundred left over. Am I wrong here or just missing something?

Got mine for free. I'd use the GTS hood unless you really need the air circulation

I have the 69 inserts in average condition, but I have seen these go for $200.
My car isn't even a GT, so it's not like I found the Holy Grail, the last piece of the puzzle for that concourse resto. I like the AAR fiberglass six pack hood just because of the wow factor. My buddy had one on his Road Runner, it was pretty nice.
Maybe I'll hang on to it for another 20 years, by then maybe I can retire on it's value!

We used to get really stupid money for the Challenger Rally hoods but then they came out with a reproduction of it and the used hood prices fell like rocks off a cliff. We also got unbelievable money for 71 Cuda grilles and the reproduction piece took a big chunk out of that market too. Eventually someone will reproduce the GTS hood, and then used prices will take a dive.

Brian.....If those are '68 inserts in the power bulges, I've watched those go for $550 to $750 on Ebay, depending on condition. The hoods are way up there, too. If you really aren't all that interested in using it, like was said, now is probably the time to sell.
I'm trying to work something to come up with an aftermarket copy of the '68 inserts in aluminum or steel. It would not surprise me to see a repop of the hood fairly soon.

One of the fiberglass outfits is selling the bulge hood now. If you aren't going to use it now is the time to sell it before metal repops show up. I stumbled across a bulge hood with decent 340 inserts for 150. a few weeks ago but that's not likely to happen too often. I got a rim blow wheel for 10. at the same time. Go figure.

Last February I bought a 69 Dart GT convertible with a good running 318, 4 speed with new shifter and linkage, New Shop Manual and new Year One Top Chrome, Kelsey Hayes disc brakes AND the GTS hood (with the rare 68 inserts that I just got $635 for)..Whole car $1200! It was on EBAY and in an email he said he would end the auction for $1200. I left THAT night and drive 600 miles to get it the following morning! Like you said, NOT EVERYDAY!

Here is the AAR hood I was interested in. $500, ready to sand, seal, and paid. My buddies came almost ready to paint. Unfortunately, my inserts are the more common 69 340 type.

And I thought I paid too much for mine about a year ago when I gave $300.00 for it, unfortunately though it didnt include any rare 68 inserts, but for a driver I'm not too picky and the 69 inserts will work just fine.

I have a GTS hood and inserts I am saving for the convertible. I am not selling it though, something about having a real GTS hood appeals to me.

I wish they would hurry and come out with the steel hood so I would have a place o put my 68 inserts. I considered the glass hood, but I keep hopeing someone will show up at a swap meet with a deal. Being a tight wad will cause me to keep waiting for the repop steel. I saw a rusty hood on forabodiesonly.com that was being sold for the bulges ($150.). Guess I shoulda pryed open the wallet. Then it's GTS clone time.

Good luck guys! I can't say how many times I've listed an obscure part just to see what I would get for it, then, because I had the only one on EBAY. The price went stupid! The next week however, EVERYONE lists that same part because of all the money mine brought and nobody makes reserve because suddenly there are TEN of the same item! I don't want to sound like I'm the king of EBAY because the REVERSE happens to me a lot also. I SEE an obscure part bring good money, only to list one of the many that I have and find that every other Mopar seller has done the same. The fact is that $1600 hoods are the exception rather than the rule, but you can still get 800-1k for them pretty often. I have at least one extra laying around that I might list just becore Carlisle with delivery to the show. I just haven't worked out an economical way to ship something that large. Right now, I've carved out a niche in the frame rail department. I've discovered that nobody else is selling cleaned and painted Mopar frame parts, so I'm cutting every parts car frame that I can find. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230090657944&rd=1,1http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230090657992&rd=1,1http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230090657974&rd=1,1

Greg I think you're right, the market is starting to top out on these things. The other guys hood (just like mine) stalled out at $800 and didn't meet his reserve. Mine is at $600 and reserve is met, it will be sold. Some people are greedy, I would just like to make a decent buck.
It's funny how many flat Dart hoods have popped up on Ebay lately. I'll end up giving mine away when I switch over to the glass one.

It's not that the market has STALLED, it's just that after an item brings really good money, EVERYBODY lists another just like it hoping to get the same amount. It's the old basic law of supply and demand. The trick is to wait until all of the other guys give up, THEN relist. I usually do a search befoe I list a part. If there are too many on, wait for a better time. Also, EBAy has been a little slower because a lot of people lost money last week in the stock market! You wouldn't think it would matter, but if your investment portfolio took a 40 percent hit, you are less likely to bid really stupid money on parts for what are basically non-essential "toy" cars. In a month or so stocks will be back up, there won't be that many parts on, and again yours will do well. Good Luck!

Greg, I bought a 68 GTS hood off a guy in Tulsa and he had a yellow rusted up power bulge hood just like the one in your photo he offered to me cheap. I passed on it. I spent some money getting the 68 GTS hood media blasted and it's NICE now. I also picked up another 69 power bulge hood with zero rust here in Texas for $350. It looks like the power bulge hood market is going up. I agree the 69 hood inserts are reasonable and easy to find. The 68 hood inserts are fetching big money these days. Just my observation......Joe

Greg, Nice sales. I think I'm going to start saving that type of stuff. For me if it ain't sheetmetal it usually goes to the scrapper but I can see how folks would need those kind of parts. Great idea.

I ended up getting $935 for both pieces. The hood brought $835, thought it would do better. 69 inserts brought $100.

There was a guy at last year's Mopar Nat's with two nice ones. One was $650 and one was $475. Neither had inserts. I have a couple of non-perfect ones that may get sold on EBAY right before Carlisle so I can deliver them to the show without having to ship them.

more The only flaw is a small stress fracture (1/2") in the 1st pic that I didn't notice prior to primer by the bolt hole. Also, does anyone know what these numbers mean on the hood by the drivers side hinge mount in the 2nd pic?

Sorry, can't help you out with the numbers.
You might want to read this whole post, especially what Greg wrote, before you list your hood on Ebay. In the last month, I've watched these hoods go from $2000 down to around $800. You | | |
