I remember the late 60s well, being born in late 1959. It wasn't about cars for me then, it was all about baseball into the early 70s. Baseball is still my first love. WE had a neighborhood full of kids around our age and an open field behind my house. Great times.

Thanks for the memories. Being an East Coaster guy my drag racing days were spent with Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins, Dave Strickler and Bruce Larson at York US 30 Dragway. Gas was 5 gallons for one dollar. In 1960 there wasn't a McDonalds yet. The Baltimore area there were various "drive-ins" where all the fast cars gathered. The Circle, aka "270 Hill", The Hot Shoppe, Varsaty, Reubens, The Thunderbird.

Once a year about 25 or 30 guys still get together for a BBQ and general bull session. Some of the guys still have their cars from back then.I still e-mail three of theguys everyday....mainly jokes.

Again thanks for the post Cheers Cheers Cheers

I was born in mid 69 but I was lucky enough to be able to live the 60s thru my parents. Dad was a former sailor-turned-biker in the late sixties, Mom was an activist, a real chain-yourself-to the bulldozer type, protesting the building of the local nuke plant. I heard stories of Woodstock, riding w/ the Angels in SoCal, listened to moms Hendrix and Steppenwolf records, and I remember vividly Dads 64 Rebel SST. As a teenager, I experienced my own version of the sixties, including the acid and reefer. Those days are gone now and with 3 boys of my own, I have stories to share with them passed down from the old hippies themselves.

I was born in 1966. I absolutely remember the day my father brought home his new 69 Charger. My mom was at the hospital having my brother, we went to the dealer and picked up the car and went to a diner to have scrambled eggs. That diner is an auto parts store now. About ten years ago, my dad and I were driving down that road and I said that's where the diner was we had eggs after we picked up the Charger. He almost passed out from disbelief. My mom drove a 65 Pontiac Tempest convertable. My Grandmother had a 65 Olds 98. My neighbor had a 69 Shelby GT500 with 428 Cobra Jet. I grew up near a fairly busy corner and always saw something cool driving by. It was always about cars for me.

Oh man, this is a FUN thread.  I was born in late '64 but I'm weird in that I have all kinds of memories going back to the age of about three.

I can remember the Beatles/Paul is dead rumor and my older sister talkiing about it, 45 records, watching The Monkees, Man from Uncle, Then Came Bronson, Star Trek, Mod Squad, Room 222, Gunsmoke on TV.

My parents regular daily drivers where things like '62 Impala wagon, '65 2 door Impala, '67 Mustang, '68 Camero  (327 4 speed), '64 Bonneville Convert, '67 Chevelle convert (we drove this one from Minnesota to California on a family trip with all three kids piled in the back in '67 or '68 - no cars seats for any of the kids naturally).

All the bad parts of both conservatism and liberalism have been magnified since those times, that's why things have become so wussified IMHO.

By the time I was in high school in the late 70s, early 80s, musclecars could be found easy and cheap.  I passed on a really nice '67 GTO with a 4 speed for $1400 and a '69 Torino with a 428 SCJ and 4 speed for $1200 before settling on my '72 340 Challenger for $1200.  The two baddest cars in school were a mint '70 burnt orange GTX with a 4 speed and air grabber and a '70 Mach I with first a 428 and then a 427 swapped in.
