Does this look like a good plan??
« on: March 05, 2007, 09:12:17 PM »

As you can see I have bit off more than I can chew and have become very demotivated with this project. However I'm going to get back to it and just getter done! And yes I know this would be considered junk in most of your neck of the woods but not very many of them left here and this one had perfect frame rails seemed like a good starting point .....wish someone had kicked me in the nuts instead!!!
I had to take the floor out as there was corrosion between the floor and crossmembers .I'm going to blast it all and epoxy it so this is where I'm at. I have decided to use 3"X3"X.125 tube as the frame connectors. I have this piece of tube clamped up just so I can get a idea as to where the connector will go.I'm going to put a 1 1/2"X3"tube outrigger from the frame connector to the rocker at the back where the floor steps up.And a 2"X2" tube to replace the front rear seat bracket.  I will cut the floor and weld all pieces to the floor where they fit through the floor.I'm also going to put a 1 1/2"X3" at the front my plan for these (front and back)is if I ever decide to put in a rollbar.I'm also putting in the torque boxes front and rear so I'm wondering where the front outrigger should go? Behind the torque box or hidden under it? The frame connectors will fit over the rear frame rails and then tie directly into the spring relocation boxes in the rear. I'm cutting out both sides of the frame as I believe that it will be stronger when the relocation box is welded back in. Then I'm going to notch them at the front so that the bottom of the connector runs past the front crossmember as the 1/8th of a inch drop will give me just enough that I don't have to modify my parking brake.I'm welding the connector directly to the crossmember and not add the plate on the end....good idea or not??I also plan to weld in a 1/8th plate along the inside of the torsion bar crossmember to help strengthen it as when I worked in a welding shop in the 80's I must have fixed a 100 of them some just ripped their self out when they looked ok.I think that this should make a really strong car once it is all welded together???
My plan is to do this with the car down on jack stands on the front and rear frame. The car is on a rotisserie now and I believe that with the car on jack stands and with the floor out that the car will sit and relax in the correct position. And I won't have to add weight to the front and back as some on the site have suggested.Obviously the car will be levelled front to back and side to side before I start . What do you think??? Other than junk it ! Here in my side of Canada these are few and far between and unfortunately it's all I have to work with and I can't turn back now .My wife wants to drive in it this summer....SHHHHHHH ! she hasn't been to the garage in awhile! LOL!
This is only a street car maybe a few times to the strip but I may like it and go more in that direction.
Sorry to be so long winded!!.
But any input info suggestions will be appreciated .
Thanks !
Blair
