What is the difference in dashes and guages? Currently I have a 70 Swinger that I really don't like the guages and the dash is in pretty bad condition. I have a dash setup out of a 73 duster... Am I able to just swap them? And are most pieces interchangeable through these similar a-bodies?

All 67-76 a-body dash frames and their associated instrument clusters can be interchanged. The problem you may run into is in the wiring. You can use the wiring from the dash you intend to use, but then it probably won't match up to the bulkhead or rear body harness correctly.

would it be better to rewire the guages? I am wondering because my current cluster has the guages all in one line where as the cluster from the duster has the square(ish) speedo with the four separate guages and I was thinking of putting aftermarket guages in for the oil, temp, volt, and gas... speedo I will have to leave though... Does this seem feasible? (sp)

What size is your fuel guage? That is exactly what I was thinking just w/o the wood... but what size is the fuel guage?

The fuel gauge is 2 1/8. The other gauges are 1 3/4. I could not find a fuel gauge the same size as the other gauges.

how difficult was it to put the larger guage in there? Just a little bit of mod or not worth the hassle?

I just used my Drimal and just took out a little at a time until the gauge fit. Here is a picture from the back. It was not that hard to do just took some time.

I picked up a spare junker dash setup just for this exact same mod.
so you removed the printed circuit board from the back...are you planning on reusing that for the turn signals and such? what about the round plug? will you be resuing that?

I put a Ron Francis wiring kit in the Sport so I do not need to use any of the old electric circuits.

the one I got is pretty ugly too, but I plan on putting a different texture on there anyway (as soon as I figure out what), so it was a bargain. its just a nice easy starting point for something unique and keeps me from thrashing the original dash cluster

When I had my 72, I was going to paint my cluster black with silver accents, then remove the seatbelt light and install an S2000 starter button where it used to be...

You could make your own out of aluminum plate and put all new guages in. I used 3/16" Plenty Strong !!!

How do you attach the aluminum plate to the original dash? Do you make the template out of cardboard or how would I go about this? First timer with a lot of questions sorry...

the cardboard template is the approach Im going to use. Ive used it for other things and so long as you dont cut it too close and allow for trim to fit, it works really well.
I was actually thinking in terms of quarter turn fasteners to hold the cluster in place on mine.

Don't get me wrong I am sure they are great products but I will have enough money in just guages... let alone a production dash insert. I have way more time than money so this is the route I will be going. It had crossed my mind though... along with robbing a bank to afford my mopar...

I almost bought one, then they jacked their priceds WAY up after Christmas, there is no way I can afford to pay that much for a dash insert! I used to make custom dash panels for boats and I'm sure I can make one similar for 1/10th that price.
