hey i like the look of the outside chrome fuel pressure gauge but i dont want to wreck the car(drill holes) has anyone ever done this???

never done i t,don't like the look pesonally.but i would think if you ran a strip of metal between the hood and cowell and if you had to drill holes it would only be a couple behind the weatherstrip seal on the cowell.

Bolt and washer thru fins in cowl from bottom. Pull windsheild motor and you can get to it. No drilling or fabricating.

if i would pull the windshield motor how would that help?  theres no way to get in there unless u pulled the drivers side vent tube???  maybe im just retarted  |

is this for asthetic reasons or is it to keep the mech. gauge out of the cockpit.I'm wondering if they make an electronic gauge that reads the mech. gauge,that way you can get an accurate reading from inside the car without an external gauge.
mr. hotrods idea would work fine,i have big hands and they barely fit inside the motor hole but they do,not sure what you mean by pulling the vent tube.

Does Autometer still make that guage isolator? It allows you to have a fuel pressure guage in the cockpit.

I used some strips of an old inner tube and a small hose clamp to tie mine to the slots on the cowl.
The hood just clears it when opening and it looks alright to me.......now........has anyone ever put a large tach on their dash in a '65 dart ?
I have a 5" Autometer and it isn't gonna go anywhere I can see it whilst driving unless I take my eyes off the road ( a bad thing )
There are isolators ( Autometer makes one ) , but the gauge sitting on the cowl makes a statement even when parked.

I used a small piece of aluminium flat bar that would fit throught the washer sprayer hole, drilled and tapped 2 holes in the alum, and slid it in enough to get the first screw through the gauge bracket and into the aluminum, then slid through some more to install the second, then moved all back towards windshield. For the line, I just 3/16" brake line tubing and ran it out through the same hole, if you want I can snap a pic or 2. It was actually quite easy.

Putting one outside must require a good mount, you do not want the gauge to shake itself loose and have gas sprayed all over the car.......big fire!!! If you put one in the car with an isolator, the gauge MUST be higher than the connection at the fuel line. The line is filled with an antifreeze, so when you work with the line , be careful as not to allow the coolant to flow out. It has a coolant in the line for the pressure to be read correctly, that way you dont have raw gas coming into the car attached to the guage.

A friend of mine had has fuel pressure guage mounted on the outside of his Demon, on the cowl area. He left the car parked somewhere one night and some jackass decided to try and steal the gauge. The thief destoyed the cowl trying to remove a 50 dollar gauge. I used a isolater and mounted mine in the dash  |
