check out my new RMS rear suspension ..(pics)
« on: April 01, 2007, 11:53:52 AM »

cruised 2 hours up to bill's place yesterday and helped him install his street lynx system in my dart....

what a long day.. i left the house at 5:30 am and didn't get home till 11pm.

what a cool system. car rides and handles allot better. it really sticks to the road now. even with the crappy tires i have on the car..  still want to adjust a few things but man does the car ride nice now... had to trash my tail pipes because they were in the way of the upper arms but it looks like there is pleanty of room for new ones. god i hope so because the car is loud with out them..lol.

very, very cool, the kit looks to be very simple but still extremely functionable, looks like practically infinite adjustability- any idea on when this kit will become available and about what the price on it will be? i hope its not too much

Very cool system.  I knew Bill was working on an air ride system, I didn't know he had a coil over system available.

This has been a project of mine for an extremely long time. I was bent on making a fully adjustable street kit with coils that still allowed the stock gas tank. Of course, this kit is only for the 67-up a-abodies. I use other stuff for the B/E's.  It worked out really nice though. It took us about 8 hours start to finish, but I admit it would be better to call it a weekend project.  I used in my carr last summer with good results, but Joes was the first one made on the jigs as a production piece, so I was worried about e-brake cables, brake lines, gas lines, ect - but it all went back into place pretty nice, everything fit the way I measured it to, so I can now say all the fab work is correct and accurate.   The brake line on the rear has to be rebent because the parts are very close to the old clips on the axle, but that's a minor item, so I'm happy with it all. TTI tailpipes do not fit, but there isn't much you can do about that - I felt it was better to keep the stock tank and allow custom tailpipes to be made. I'm not a fan of fuel cells on the street.
There will be 2 options - coil-over or air ride, and adjustable links like the pictures, or bushing-type links for more of a set-it-and-forget-it use.
Price will be 1795 with either link, and 1895 to get the air ride shock upgrade. After a year of research, it's exciting to finally see it a reality.
I wanted to keep it simple, so it took a while to find pivot points that offered a little anti-squat without any roll steer, and still had a roll center high enough that a sway wouldn't be needed.
Welding of course is required, but no critical measuring, and a cheapy angle finder from sears is needed to play with the pinion angle.
I do have a few kits pre-ordered that I have to get done, but otherwise, I could take an order for one now, and have it ready in two weeks.

Great looking kit.

Couple of questions for Joe or Bill. Do the additional spring perches line up under the frame rails, like where the mopar perf spring relocation kit perches go ? How much more tire clearance does the lower link have over a stock located leaf spring ? Could the lower link be offset and installed even closer to the frame rail ? Could the kit come with links that are .750 inch longer for those that want to install the rear housing back for tire diameter clearance ? How do you think this set up would work on the strip with slicks ?  Whew

Again , awesome looking kit.

i know bills 275/50-17 tires (27.8 X 10.Cool mounting on a 17 x 8 rim with a 5.72 back space fit perfect on the back of my car..  and the wheel wells are stock....     i don't think the other perches are under the rail where they would be if mini tubbed but bill could answer that better then me..

Actually, I initially made it all using the inboard location. My dart had the inboard springs and I left the old perches on the axle, so worked it out so everything fit either way. Looking at the pics above, if you use the inboard location, the tabs for the upper links are between 2 of the ubolts.
I can get links that are 1" longer, and you can adjust them 3/4" or so, so any length is possible - I kept that in mind when working it out - i know you need to go back an inch to fit 29.5's in there.... It wasn't intended for strip use, although it's more than strong enough. But the anti-squat characteristics are low compared to 4-link or ladder bars. With those systems, you end up with more than 100% anti-squat, but there's alot of roll-steer if you have alot of anti-squat, so I kept it low for more predictable handling.  This system, if you move the lower bars to the top hole, will give you about 80% - not bad, but nothing near a drag race type of suspension. I do believe that's more than a leaf suspension though. Think of this - with proper tuning, this same arrangement of parts is propelling mustangs and drag radials into the 9's, so I'm not too concerned. Below the 11's, you'd probably have to add a strip type of sway bar - in a wheelstanding car, there will be alot of body roll off the line, which would have to be controlled.

I gotta say Joe, Tyler was cool-headed - I only caught him grabbing the armrest on one turn LOL Yep...you're going to have trouble with him when he gets that licence Grin

Thanks for the info Joe and Bill. I'm wondering if your kit might be the ticket for super stock classes in the 10 to 11 second zone.

Yup, looks like the new perch is right under the frame rail, which would be cool for everybody that moved their springs in Smiley
