brake line fittings

do you ever use any type of teflon tape or some kind of tape to prevent leaks?i have a fitting that is giving me grief and am trying to avoid replacing the line it's attatched to.

If it is a NPT then yes. If is is a flare fitting then no. Also if trying to reseat a flare on a used inverted flare fitting or hose, the seating surface gets mated and won't seal. the fitting or hose end may have to be replaced.
