Where did you buy your Indy heads?
« on: April 09, 2007, 06:11:24 PM »

Getting close to ordering some 440-EZ-1 heads. I saw from another thread that it is better off using another vendor like Mancini than dealing directly with Indy. Something like lack of stellar customer service.  Huh Mancini is top notch when it comes to customer service.

I've heard a TON of bad things about Indy's costomer service.  It's a shame their products are so good.  I'm not really sure of a good place to get them, but I'd have them checked out by your machinist before you use them.  You probably already were.

I bought mine thru Mancini , Indy EZ 1, when ordering make sure you have your cam spec`s, even so the heads comes complete I still had to pay extra for another set of valve spring and also due to the amount of lift we had to replace the chrome moly retainer to titanium ones, last year friend of mine running chrome moly retainers on his 474 , Indy 440-1 heads split one in 2 , luckily only had to replace valve and piston. With 1.6
rockers I am running .672 intake .684 exhaust. The heads that I ordered had the max wedge design, nice set of heads, still lots of meat inside runners to do porting. These heads will be running on my 496 that I am building for my 69 Dart.

I bought my cnc'd 360-2's through ProMax when they were doing their re-stocking.  Saved around 450bux off of list price.

Bought mine from Modern Cylinder Head, and they cnc'd them in-house. Great guys to deal with!

b569rr,

I bought mine from Mancini Racing, as I have just about everything for my Valiant. They are great guys to deal with.
I replaced the valve springs for spec of cam, they make decant power, good heads.

yeha what these guys already said get them somewhere else i unfortunetly bought mine from indy direct and there service sucks had to send them back to get re ported they were sr's that where supose to be opened to max wedge to bad it wasn't even close and it looked like a 2 yrs old went to town on them i actuall ended up with a different set . it ended up not mattering anyway because a couple years later i had the local shop go threw them and upgrade the springs for a roller and the springs that came out had very little seat pressure, and if thats not bad enough i was told they only use ferrea or manley valves Not True as i found out when the head fell off one destroying my stroker motor and the valves only had about 250 miles and maybe 25 passes on them when a metalurgist looked at them he said they where cheapo valves and it had a flaw in the stem
when i asked indy they told me it hit a piston and thats why it broke, i told him it hit the pistion only after it broke ( i never expected them to do anything for me i just wanted to see what he would say )

i will step down from my soap box now , sorry about the rant

i will add i love the heads now they nake awesome power just hate they guys at indy, oh promax is great to deal with thats where i have been getting my indy only seals latley ( ie rear main seal o rings )

It just keeps getting better. Cheap valves and poor machine work.  \/][

the valve springs having very little seat pressure it may have it the piston first but that doesn't excuse them from supplying you with crappy ones through that wouldn't stay on the seat or follow the cam profil

We bought ours from Indy.   Dunno

We didn't have any problems but looking at this post sounds like we were lucky.   Undecided

I have also delt with Mancini many times and will continue to go back!   Grin

I've heard from a few people that ordering them prepped from Hughes is a good way to go Huh Maybe, maybe not?
