have you ever heard of putting a spacer in front of the front spring hangers to set axle back if so, what is the purpose? i recieved a street- srtip  car that had that done to it. thanks  for any help

Moves the tire centered in the rear wheel well opening for use of a taller tire.  When I relocated my springs, I just moved it back then.
