Is it not possible to watch IP addys and keep the trash away?

to a point... but it becomes a real pain in the butt...

You can ban IP address but most people have access to more then one computer so more then one IP. Also, how many people are you going to ban before you say enough. Its not easy watching over thousands of members even if most of them follow the rules.  drinks

Doesn't surprise me, I have gotten burnt a couple time on here, but for penny ante stuff, even on the old site I got took. Doesn't matter, enough people pushed the wrong buttons and Bill appears to have finally had enough. I quit going in there myself since 50% of the time I couldn't get a response to ads that were posted, or unable to get further information for ads I did get a response on. There are plenty of other places to buy/sell/scam people on, so losing the one here is not going to hurt anyone, just may make it a bit inconvenient for those who don't go to the other sites.

Hmm... I can understand that there are a lot of problems with the section, but couldn't there be another solution? Maybe putting a high minimum post for the section, upwards of 150-200 posts, that way, by the time people can post in the section, we at least have somewhat of an idea of what the person is like?

More moderators would also be an option. There's plenty of older members here who could be trusted.

Another option would be like a downloading forum I used to go to. Once a member had been around long enough that people knew who they were, they were added to a "Respected Members" group, which gave them access to private forums with access to better, private download servers. Now, this site had over 400,000 members with an average of about 3,000 signing up per day, so their restrictions on becoming a "respected member" were pretty stringent. You literally had to usually have more then 2,500 quality posts, not be considered a spammer, and be widely known for being helpful to other members before you were allowed into the category. We wouldn't need near as strict regulations here, but it's just another idea to throw out there.

All that being said, though, I've ran my fair share of sites in the past, and I can feel your pain. Few things are more annoying then people who take for granted the services you offer, for free, and don't even have the respect to listen to the simple requests you make. So regardless of what happens I want to throw a big thank you to Bill, Jim, Sue, and Joe for keeping this place running. We really do appreciate it.

 agree bbd sign.........

and i also agree with Rate...i'm curious if it has been mostly the fault of new members that has screwed it for everybody else..and that if their are some older members..that would moderate a "Respected members" section......cause in all honesty.parts trading and swapping[with friends] etc..is still a lot of what the car hobby is about and their aren't to many other places that you can still get a good part for a fair price....e-bay sucks ass and i'm not really interested in any other forums[to then just to look for parts].......i hope we can all make a effort to work this out somewhat.....and again bbd sign

Why in the hell do people complain and why in the hell can't people follow the rules???  If you don't like something then don't look at it!  The "back" button isn't hidden, it's right there and should take a fraction of a second to hit.
As far as the rules being broken, what the hell?  The rules were SO simple and I can't believe people wouldn't feel the need to put the info required no matter what.  Um, hello!? You want to sell something? Put your location and price!  hammer  It's really not that hard.
It just really irks me that a site, which is probably 99% adults, has to baby its members!

I didn't see this thread, and I PM'd Bill directly (sorry). I enjoy both the classifieds, and the tech stuff. I thank everyone I've dealt with, and the board itself for supplying me the oportunity to come, and learn, and I'm not going anywhere.

It's a real shame to lose the classified section.

I'd just like to say that all my buying/selling experiences have been good with the people on this sight. I got this hood from RPMRICH for a fair price, I had been looking for one for two years and found this one 250 miles from me. Thanks again Rich Smiley

I've used the classifieds for one thing or another in the past, I might have even broken the rules(sorry if I did). I would be willing to be a moderator for the classifieds if it would help to keep it around. Just a thought. thanks Bill for the great site.

The site isn't going anywhere - just the classified section. I'm considering leaving the "wanted" section for people who are looking for much needed things, but without a doubt, the for sale listings are history - I'm tired of the harassing emails whenever someone has an issue. Jen summed up my feelings about it....

That'd work just fine Smiley Course, you'd probably still get some idiots who post stuff like this:

Subject: WANTED: Money

Post: I'm looking for money, willing to "trade" my hood.

Idiots are everywhere, and they seem to be multiplying daily Shocked

What about the way Moparts has it ?  Where you can't respond back through the board ,  And you have to list your own E-mail or phone number to get a responce.   Can you set it up to lock after one post is made ?

Just hate to see them all go .  Thanks Bill,

Bill, why would you get harrasing emails?

Because when idiots that don't know how to follow the simple instructions put forth by Bill get thier ad deleted, they feel they have the right to bitch Bill out to compensate for thier lack of intelligence.  Believe me...it happens to us on Moparts also.  I don't blame Bill one bit for doing away with it...  Most folks don't realize what Bill puts into this site, totally out of his own pocket and it's free to EVERYONE on here.  You don't get that from eBay!!   Madd  Not to mention the time he has to set aside to not only maintain the server, but to also babysit the numerous adults we have here that act like they are back in grade school.  I think that about sums it up... Dunno

Sorry Bill...didn't mean to put words in your mouth (or on your keyboard...), but I've been on the receiving end of those emails also.  drinks

So, not to break the rules:
Dunno Can the "off topic" be used to direct the readers to an ebay auction of interest? I used to use the "for sale" area to post auctions related to Darts. The "other" site is millitant against Ebay.
Thanks for what you guys DO provide for us!

We've never had a problem with direct links to cars being sold on Ebay...Go ahead, put them in O/T....Not a problem.....

Edit:  The statement above only refers to ebay listings that are NOT your own ads.  I would think anyone would realize that listing a link to your stuff is the same as listing a part for sale here and isn't fair to others. Links to odd things, funny things, Bizarre things is what was meant by it is OK. Sorry for the confusion, I guess I should have spelled it out better and not take for granted that people understood this...
