68 GTS Tailpanel finish questions.
« on: April 28, 2007, 06:54:29 PM »

Ok, I have tried to research this for months, but I still can't figure this one out. How do you know which is correct black or silver? I have seen both on the same color Darts. I like the way the silver one looks, but I have two black ones. What were the reasons for Dodge having two different colors on the finish panels?

The top is correct for a GT, bottom for a GTS.

Really? I have seem 2 GTS's that the owners swear their cars came with the silver, and I know for certain that my GT came with the black since I have the original panel, its very faded, but you can tell it was black.

That's not to say the factory didn't screw up, but what I said is what is "correct". Also, with these cars any number of things could have happened when the cars were new. My GTS got a complete front end sheetmetal swap in 1970. I'm still surprised they got a the center grille piece and then didn't replace the tweaked inner fenderwell.
