has anyone done away with the torsion bars on an A-body and used coilover front shocks and what shocks did you use

The coil-overs that Bill sells are probably the best bang for your buck. If you do the conversion make sure to; 1. reinforce the bottom surface of the lower control arms with a plate that attaches the two pieces together, 2. it is also a good idea to drill and tap a 3/8" hole through the back of the pivot pin that rests in the control arm (where the torsion bar would slip into), then install a grade 8 bolt (2 1/2" worked for me) & hardened washer of the correct diameter and crank it down. That should stiffen up and strenghten the LCA a lot more.

I forgot to mention.......you'll need to use tubular upper control arms also to gain enough clearance for the coil-overs. 71

don't forget to reinforce the upper shock mount too..
