Help! Help!
« on: May 10, 2007, 03:51:24 PM »

I have been doing the body work on my barracauda for the last year and a half, slow moving yes but I wanted to do it right. My problesm is I hd the car completely striped to bare metal with a few spots being filler or unfinished dent repair. When I went to the shop after being gone for a few days I noticed a deep clay red color all over the car..well the whole damn car. When I first touched it and observed it it seemed chalky like primer. Well I didn't prime the car so I asked my roomate WTF he said he left a bottle of some "acid" by the car and that was the reason it was rusted. WTF I look closer and and a little bit and I notice only 60 grit paper and to much force gets it off.Well I already sanded the car and was finishing it up and now its completely rusted. not like surface rust but a little deeper like the first 6 gages worth of metal. I have not touched the car since it turned rusty and I dont know wether to kill my roomate bat or use some kind of solution to fix it. WHAT SHOULD I DO there is only so much left i can sand off, I wonder if I am not just screwed! Cry

I doubt very much it's from an acid bottle left nearby. I had parts of my car media blasted. I treated most areas immediately with Picklex 20 (and some hardware store Jasco stuff) to protect from flash rust. I didn't do the rockers though and they flash rusted just as you described.

You know thats what I thought but its been striped for quite awhile with a close eye it has never flash rusted. SO I still dont quite buy the acid story but who knows but like I said I highly doubt in the course of two days in the same place same condtions as it has been in for over a year in a dry clean garage. SO I don't know if my roomate is using the acid bottle story as a diversion from what really happend but i guess it could happen Dunno
