hey guys, new to the forum, just picked up a slant six/auto/ 7 1/4 1969 dart and am in the process of swapping in a LA 360/727/8 3/4 to the car and have a few beginning questions... any help is appreciated... i believe that swapping to a manual box is the best answer for the steering system and need to know what parts exactly ill need other than the steering box itself, also, where can i find the v-8 drop center steering link? havent had much success finding them on the web... also, i have been thinking about getting the ford explorer rear disc brake kit, but havent been able to find that kit either on the web... also, if there is a better option than that for rear discs, im all ears!... lastly, i took the 360/727 out of a 1973 D-200 ram 4wd truck and i know i need the longer tailshaft housing, but the really head scratcher for me is all of the kickdown linkages... should i get the Lokar kickdown stuff or will all the linkages i pulled out of the truck work in the dart? thanks guys!...

when you get the box at the junk yard grab the bottom foot of the steering shaft. fit, cut, bevel and weld or by bill's adaptor. don't know anything about the brakes. the linkages should work fine. sell the 4-wheel stuff and buy a small block 727.

Your 360 has a rear sump (truck) oil pan. You will need a 360 CAR oil pan. 318 and 340 pans will NOT work. If you get another trans, you will need the torque converter from the 727 you have (or a 360 weighted torque converter)or the B7M adaptor if you want to lose the weight on the converter. To install the V8 you will have to change the K frame or use the Schumaker conversion mounts. ( www.engine-swaps.com) Many /6 cars used the same drop center drag link. You may already have it. I never had any problems going s/6 to small block on the stock drag link. Big block becomes more of a problem. The steering conversion used a longer column on the manual units. Bill sells an adaptor, but if you are getting it from a junkyard, you could grab the manual column too. Rear discs are not all they're hyped up to be. If you gotta have em,. there are several kit dealers on EBAY and elsewhere. I haven't used them. Good Luck! If you have the 9 inch front drum brakes and the /6 torsion bars, you may want to upgrade that too.
