67 barracuda dash frame problems?
« on: May 22, 2007, 03:37:51 AM »

I just spent all weekend detailing my rally cluster gauge setup, well when I went to install this cluster in the 67barracuda dash it seems like the bottom lip is tweeked or bent. No matter what I do it just seem F***** up and will not sit flush Like you would think...the screws line up and everything sits alright toward the glove box end of the dash but the area above the steering column dropout /and to the left seems warped? Does it have to be installed in the car for the dash frame to be straight ? sorry no pics at this time , here is some info and maybe one of you guys might see the error .  The 67 dash frame has sat unbolted for a long time, the cluster is the rally dash 150mph speedo unit, woodgrain, no performance gauge. I was told duster cluster but It looks damn close to 68 later units. Dunno sorry for no pics does dash pad affect this? this pic if it works is the closet thing i can find to what my dash cluster looks like.

You should be able to tell if the frame is tweaked by comparing it to the other side. Most likely, the plastic dash insert is warped. Mine is like that on the top edge. Not much you can do about that. I doubt the dash pad or installing it in the car will change the shape of the dash frame.

The pad won't affect it. You have to remember the fit and finish of 60s cars was more hit or miss than anything else. Plus, the car is nearly 40 years old and things may have been tweaked a little over time. Work it as close to straight as you can.

my dash out of my duster is the exact same way, as i have it sitting out right now, i was wondering the exact same thing

my thought is that when you put it back in, the steering column hanger piece on the car will straiten it out

Hmm well I would love to say its the plastic insert but there is a metal plate that runs all the way across the top ..I would asume to keep it from being tweeked. after staring at it for awhile I think the left side of the dash frame sat on a ledge unsupported for awhile ..it just looks like it droops in the bottom left corner but its flat and straight on the top  Dunno I think I will work it like jim said.      thank you bbd sign
