So Cary did you have floaters and sliders? Or just the floaters?

What we had bloted to the rearend in place of the spring pad. They were floaters. I allways called them sliders, but I looked on the web and the correct name is floaters. I still do not like them. Maybe we did something wrong I am not sure. I still think just go and do a ladder system or 4 link.

My Dart runs this setup and worked great for my W2 340 / Flite setup , with the new Hemi combo ? Check out the pic.

Those are called "housing floaters" and are used with ladder bar/leaf spring combos. The sliders are a different animal. They replace the rear shackle to eliminate bind.

I thought maybe people were getting the two different systems mixed up thats why I asked. Glad we have cleared that up.

so is the slider more of a race only setup or how does it act on the street- with say SS springs and Koni gas-adjust shocks for example- is it extra noisy with aluminum bushings?

I always understood the floaters to be a slider set up. I are now ejucated. I saw a 72 or 73 Red Barracuda w/426 Hemi at the track one time with the floater set up. That sucker hooked like the tires were stuck. He had a shot of no2, not sure what size. He sprayed it off the line 2x and the front bumper was reachin' for the sky. The first time I was back behind the car. When he left he almost crashed the rear bumper. Second time he stood it up I was in the stands across from the car. Wish I had a picture of the face of the guy in the car next him.  lol It was around '88 at Eastex Dragstrip Sunday night street races in Porter, Texas.

years ago i had a system simular to chryco's but the brackets were welded to the axle tubes and brackets that bolted to the leaf spring and had a large roller that rollled in a slot that was called a "slider suspension"

Well supposedly they help handling, you know, a little more rigid than shackles.  As far as the noise... well not sure on that one.  Most that run them may not be able to hear them over their exhaust anyway...   Smiley

I had my own bushings made at my machine shop with .001" clearance for the through bolt. I measured the clearance between the bearing and the lower track and I get .018" out of the box. I may have to adjust them front to back when I get near finish weight.

A housing floater or slider is used when you run a ladder bar with a leaf spring. They are necessary because the leaf spring front thry bolt acts as the pivot point for the suspension, and the front thru bolt of the ladder bar acts as a separate pivot point. Those two pivot points won't work together so the pivot point for the leaf spring is essentially defeated by the use of the slider. It allows the rear to pivot thru the ladder bars front mounting bolts, not the leaf spring front mounting bolt.

There is NO reason to use a floater or slider if you aren't running a ladder bar, IMO. In order to get max suspension travel with a SS spring car you need to do two things - have long enough rear shocks so they don't top out as the suspension is moving (or use shock extenders), and you need to put a 2 - 3 inch spacer between the rear shackle mount and the body so the rear hanger will pivot and allow the chassis to rise.
