Which Tire with Super Comp Fenderwell headers?? Help
« on: July 06, 2007, 10:14:51 AM »

I'm trying to figure out what size front tire will fit on my 74 Duster, 383 with Super Comp headers.  motorinstall

I have the 15X3.5 weld draglites.  As close as I can figure I need a 24 inch tire.  I already bought P185-65R15 but they were too wide for the rims so I took them back.

What is everybody running that has the super comps.  This is about all I have left before the first test drive.  I might just order the front runners from summit but I need to know the size.

I am running 165R15 86S and they clear all but the passenger side inner most tube when right on the lock making a right hander.  I run .990 Tbars so the suspention on the front dose not realy bounce up and down much.  Pictures if you want.

Pictures would be good.  Where did you get the tires.  I've checked a few different places and they can't get a P165 in a 15 inch.  Do you know what the diameter of the tire is?

Thanks,
Pete

Going from memory (which is pretty poor at this stage) a lot of guys were using Beetle tires. I believe they are 165's. Most tire shops should be able to order them for you. If not, check out California Import Parts (major bug supplier) www2.CIP1.com

I was runing the 165 r/15's on the 3.5 inchers; now I run the 26x7.5 M/T front runners and I am much happier. Those tires are designed to be rounded and the smaler the tire, the tiighter the foot print.

Hey Speedy,  26 inch tires worked with your fenderwell headers?  I have a set of 14 inch tires that measure 25 1/2 in diameter and they hit the headers.   My car is still up on jack stands and I haven't tried to crank up the torsion bars yet.  That might give me some more clearence.  That would be great if 26 inch tires worked.

thanks

Tight turns they hit, I can keep turing the wheel, and the front comes up a bit. For normal street driving, no issues.

165's hit too though, the only thing that cleared was the 145's, and those didn't look right as they only stood 24 inches.

195-60-15 on a 7" rim they don't rub anywhere. This pic was taken with the engine removed. 440 1 7/8 super comps.

In my search for tires for the front of my '70 Dart I found what looks like a winner. BF Goodrich 155-80-R15 radial TA's for my 4.5" x 15" slots. I plan on running M/T 325-50-R15 drag radials out back. I am running under chassis headers so I won't be able to say if they will clear your headers but I thought you might want to check them out anyway.

Thanks to all for the replys.  I ended up going with 165-15.  They do rub on the headers but I can deal with that being its a braket car and won't be driven on the street, well except for the test n tune in front of my house.

Thanks
