alright...time 1963, my dad's first race car....it's a plymouth, 513 cubic inches of mopar carburated, but used Nitro Fuel.  MatchRace.  Run whatcha' brung.  Before chrondiks...Dickey Harrell vs the "Red Bandit". Pic taken at Ark City when my dad also had 2 of the Ramchargers there at the meet.  On a $500 bet, Ted was challenged to run Nitro on AFB carbs....Dickey was a fuel chemist in Scottsdale Arizona at the time.  Bling!!!!!  That is why Dickey Ran so fast...fuel chemist.  On a Run whatcha' brung MatchRace there is no rules.  It's all Headsup, so cheating is allowed, as long as both race cars leave the line close to when the flag man drops it.

They line up at one of Dickey's tracks he is sponsored by and the flag man runs over to Dickey's car and tell's him Ted's car was running fuel.  Dickey jumped out and grabbed the microphone and called my dad's driver out.  His name is Dave Rupp.  Dickey started whinning, Dave cut him off and said this was a match race. "so quit crying and get in your car and leave when ever you want to!  Dave took Dickey 3 straight in a row.  No more whinning. 10's was fast in 63' and still, the techology was with Ted DeTar about running fuel in AFB carbs.  That my friends is history, humblely,   Steve DeTar
