They line up at one of Dickey's tracks he is sponsored by and the flag man runs over to Dickey's car and tell's him Ted's car was running fuel. Dickey jumped out and grabbed the microphone and called my dad's driver out. His name is Dave Rupp. Dickey started whinning, Dave cut him off and said this was a match race. "so quit crying and get in your car and leave when ever you want to! Dave took Dickey 3 straight in a row. No more whinning. 10's was fast in 63' and still, the techology was with Ted DeTar about running fuel in AFB carbs. That my friends is history, humblely, Steve DeTar

I believe he had it fugured out first, nitro with carbs, it was in 63'. But when hilborn injection came out in 64/65, he like others had to know how to tune it. Chuck blew out a many of cranks out of the bottom of his motors!

Steve,
Please excuse me if I do not know the history very well.............but I do enjoy it.
From looking at the pictures, reading the side of the cars, and reading the articals, I would guess you and your dad are from around the Houston area..............you still live down here?
Would love to meet up with you and buy you a beer or 3 and whatever you eat................as long as you talk about the history and "things" you may have stuck in your head.
Lee

MomsR/T we have always been right here in Wichita Kansas. My dad tho' used to travel quite a bit to race in AHRA, some NHRA. Lee, thanks for the offer In 2008 we hope to start a nice local, 6 event a year Mopar series........... I've been meaning to make time (and most likely will this fall) to talk to LoneStar Raceway Park, some local dealerships, and Diamondback Engines to work with us to sponsor such an event..................... It would be great to find some of these "old timers" to guest-marshall the events and even do some race anouncing. I have talked to the 2 dealerships but still need to talk to Diamondback and John @ LoneStar........... Our new small bock HEMI's would have 2 events (5.7 heads up and 6.1 heads up) We wanted to talk to Diamondback about their ideas about what we be popular "other" classes.................. Steve.......................maybe a road trip sometime eh?

Some of these "old-timers" have passed away. My father passed away in dec of 68 in a race car accident at West Palm Beach International raceway. Chuck Grimsley is some big car dealer in Omaha Neb. He raced with my dad in 65 and 66. Ken, Gene, and Robert are the only ones I know from Texas. Terry Ivey and Dave Rupp is still above the dirt. Here's what Chuck's car Looks like now, and Roberts
