I'm going to put a scoop on my Barracuda to clear the carb and wanted to go with steel on steel. Goodmark makes a 2.5" and 5" steel cowl scoop. I know it's a Chevy piece but I was thinking about turning it around 180 degrees and cutting the length down. I'll try to provide a link or pic. What size do you think will look better. Almost like the Hemi SS/ah but different. I'm worried that the 5" may be too tall. The red line is where I would cut and the point on the left would go towards the windshield.

It's settled then. I think I'll go with the 2.5" hood as the 5" looks pretty huge. I'll post pics as I go. Thanks for the feedback

Good Idea. The only change I would make would be on the cut edge (the edge that will be facing front). I think I'd do a very subtle v or w shaped cut to give it some flair. Then I'd attach a piect of stainless tube to the underside of the cut to give the forward facing edge a bevel, and soften up the edge. Chris

I have always like the six-pac or hemi style hoods. Unlimited http://www.up22.com/scoopw3.htm#PR-5 makes a bolt-on six-pac scoop, AAR makes a bolt on Hemi scoop. "Friends don't let friends put Chevy pats on Mopars!"

That should look good, but I agree you should slice it up with some flar. Give the leading edge a contour and the sides can be cut to lead into the opening for a sporty look. Maybe even tweak them out for more of an angle on the sides rather than vertical. Check out this B-body hemi scoop for similarities. http://www.vfnfiberglass.com/6467hemiscoop.JPG

Here's the initial look. I'll cut the scoop about halfway back and angle the edges. I don't know if I'll have enough hood clearance with the motor because the scoop tapers down as it comes towards the windshield. Check the pics and tell me what you think. In the last picture, you can see the line that I'm thinking of cutting.

very cool idea illfish. just remember that you need about 4" above the carb for good air flow.
