I used it on my Scamp, and like it this way. that way if I get stuck in some rain, it will be easy to clean. I sand blasted mine, use POR15 metal ready then applyed the Por15.

POR 15 is OK if you have clean rust free area to cover. It was tested and found if itwas coated over rust, the rust would continue to creep under the paint. Check out the article I posted on this link by my picture (first page, at the bottom):

Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator is available in A few colors, including clear. I used the red primer, them coated it with Chassis Black epoxy paint. If you use two different colors, its easy to see any spots you missed while painting.

Eastwoods rust encapsulator will ONLY BOND TO A RUSTY SURFACE!!!!!. So taking anything that is bare metal must be sprayed with water and let stand for a day or so so surface rust will form, THEN you can apply the Rust Encapsulator. IT WILL NOT STICK TO BARE METAL!!!

Sorry, I don't agree, if the panel is prepped properly primer will stick. It is primer.
First of all, no primer except epoxy or etching primer will stick to bare metal. I have used this primer on sanded and cleaned panels. I have used it over and under paint and body filler, it is stable. It is an excellent primer. It will adhere to bare metal if there is rust or if it has been roughed up with at least 120 grit. I have used this on the underside of my Dart and the stuff sticks great, no chips, ever, even with my wrench banging. The paint has chipped but the primer is still there.
If by chance you have a clean sandbl;asted and rust free underside, then coat it with epoxy primer. I cleaned the underside of my car with laquer thinner, wire brushed and sandpaper for the heavy stuff. Then I sprayed the ERE on, then finished up with chassis black paint. The stuff works great, I have seen rust creep and peeling with POR 15. Based on that article, I chose to use ERE on my Dart.

I've read a number of reports of people who have had POR15 failures. I've used both Eastwood Rust Encapsulator and Zero-Rust - and would choose either over POR15. Zero-Rust is available in a number of colors and can be brushed, sprayed or rolled. Also available in rattle cans. Neither contain ISO's like POR15 (which can kill you) and are easier to work with. Learn about it here: http://www.zerorust.com/BTW, I haven't heard of ERE not bonding to bare metal but POR15 is supposed to be applied only over rust.

Well........sorry for not knowing the abbreviation for the encapsulator.......and I think I will just leave it at that. If it works with rust or bare metal, then thats good for all who use it.........

I have used Por 15 with great success. I do know that if you are spraying this stuff you must use a respirator or make sure you have made out your will. It will get into your avioli in your lungs and do irrepairable damage. If you brush it on a well prepped surface it will come out real smooth with no brush marks. Good luck!!!

Quite honestly, Eastwood does not make the stuff themselves, I beleive it is the same as Zerorust or Rust bullet. I beleive all three of those work, but I am now convinced that I will never used POR15, I have heard too many stories of peeling. But there are so many other choices, that its not a problem. The point I am trying to make is, I have used ERE and it works great, never had a problem with it.

I used POR 15 on my CJ 5. It was sparyed, then black top cooted .It si OK, but it fades flat real quick. The top coat is saposed to stop that. I guess It did not get good top coat coverage. Black on black. I like the black on red idea.I dont think I would use it again.

I took some POR 15 on and put it on a piece of sheet metal, sandblasted it and treated it with POR 15 metal ready then painted the POR 15 on the same way I did the bottom side of my car. I took the sheet metal and beat on it with a hammer on both sides. The Por 15 never came off and the metal still shows no sign of rust after leaving it set outside for over a year now. So I would say the POR-15 is very good.

I have to agree here. I have used it, and it seems to hold up for me. A buddy painted a radiator support for a custom truck he was/is doing and it sat outside in NE Ohio weather for over a year. He went and wacked it with a hammer, finish did not crack or break, and no rust all that time. I think flyboy just likes to cause trouble...

Honestly once again it comes down to how patient you are. And how willing you are to prep it. POR 15 probably does great if you take all the steps and do each of them perfect. maybe ERE is just a little more forgiving. It's honestly one of those things that comes down fully on how much prep time you took. You can't take a rust bucket and put on a basecoat/clear single stage paint over it and call it done it just doesn't work. Probably the same with these products you have to take your time and do it right.

I never said it does not work. You are putting words into my mouth. I said there are problems with it. In my case, I researched it and found the the ERE would work better. Read the article above, it is from an independent tester. Do your own research, draw your own conclusions.
