My car is primered (2K) and pretty much ready to paint. When I wet sanded, I left a few spots about the size of a dime, where I sanded too far. I was planning on sealing it with the primer (reduced 25%). Question is, is there a problem sealing over those small bare sopts?

What kind (brand and type) of primer have you used already, and what's under it in the way of metal prep?

You should use the same primer as is on the car now. If not, just lightly dust the spots till they are covered . You will get dry areas around the spots you dust, and when you sand them , USE CARE as not to sand through again. For safteys sake, I would sand them dry with an 800-1000. Sanding them dry gives you alittle more control.

The primer I've used so far is Kirker 2k urethane. I sanded and primed over old paint everywhere except for where I'd welded in new patch panels in the quarters. I had a few spots (2 to 3 inches or less) where I had bare metal showing after applying filler over the area where I'd ground over the welds. In those bare areas, I used an etching primer, then used the urethane primer over it, and wet sanded the whole car. These bare spots came up in a couple of the areas around the patch panels, where I'd sanded too far, and there's also some bare spots along the sharp contours of the body (they're maybe 1/16")where I sanded too far there.
Other than these few small places, I'm really happy with the prep work and would rather not do any more sanding if I didn't have to. That's the reason I was wondering about just reducing the 2K and using it as a sealer over these small spots.

You'll get lots of varying opinions. A seal coat over the entire car just prior to topcoating will take care of the breakthroughs. Otherwise, do what's been suggested and spray a little 2K over the spots and lightly resand. Another alternate would be to use a product called UPOL High Build which is surfacer in a rattle can. It's the only rattle can product approved by the paint manufacturers for use under topcoats.

With the exception of sealer. Never liked sealing a car before paint, I find I have die back because of the addition of more solvents. My opinion would be to just dust in the bare spots, lite sand and paint and clear (assuming its a two stage color). JMHO Jeff. P.S. Love UPOL products, real time savers.
