« on: July 11, 2007, 08:05:05 PM »

where do you clamp the rearsprings?i did asearch come up with nothing i'm useing airshocks and after searching about them seems like alot of mixed opions there, i have a set of used stock shocks would they be better with anything over 40lbs. it spins less it wheelhops don't race much but when i do i'd like some traction i'm broke right now just won't to do some lowbuck stuff to help my traction there's gotta be some lowbuck tech i posted this on some other sites all they won't to do is make rude remarks about my airshocks

You clamp the front half of the springs . Clamp each leaf to the other out near the end . What you are doing is making the front half of the spring solid . which might help elminate the wheel hop .

This is the best run we have had so far on 225 60/15 B/F Goodwrench Radial TA street tires. We still have more left in the engine.
When I leave the line i don't hit it hard off the line, I just squeeze it off the line gently but quickly, then I just nail it, and it works everytime. If I do it quick enough I can get a even quicker 60ft time and faster E/T.  IT just take practice.   383KIDD

We still have more in the car we can get out of it.    We are looking for some more taller and a little wider street tires and we found some 255 60/15 Firestone firehawk Indy 500, which are some good sticky street tires, but they are becoming harder to find, we can get some but it will cost $280 then we have to pay to get them mounted and balanced, we might as well buy some drag radials, but we want to stay true street. We have a second choice which are some Yokohoma Avid S/T which are second best to the firestones, we may end up getting those. The taller tires will help gain more traction  off the line and reduce rpms on the big end hopefully creating faster  mph and lower E/T which might put us in the  11's with street tires. I believe I can do it.

check "the tire rack"              http://www.tirerack.com/
they have the 255/60/15 (27.1" tall) in the firestone firehawk indy500 for $78.00 each plus shipping ($12-$15)
whcih isn't too bad.  then all you do is have them mounted/balanced like you were going to do any way
and you saved 80 bucks..they also have a "specs" chart which tells wide, higth, rim size, etc

as time goes on you'll work your way towards different shock/suspension-engine combinations setups that will
change the tire requirements again

Where is the snubber at? Should be about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch away from the body. Try it, the car might like it.

i have the avids on my fronts right now and if they grip going strait in the rear anything like how well they grip in the front going around corners, then they will rock

the avids you can get 60k miles out of Wink 4 speed with proper rotation and they rule in the rain

the Firestone just look too much like a mileage tire to get any grip out of them

I work for firestone in FLA and we still have some indy 500's. I don't know how good of a traction tire they would be though. I also like what u are doing with running street tires , but i think that if u are going to spend a few hundred u should propably put on some street radials like bfg or i have a friend who had real good luck with MT ET streets. those things hooked up good even on some streets! Good luck guys J.R.

okay i got my springs clamped today let the air in the shocks down to 30lbs. no wheelhop but still major wheelspin it sits reallow with the air @30 in the shocks but still real stiff in the back so i'm wandering if i put stock shocks in the back will it transfer weight to the rear and help traction ? anybody think it'll help the 255-15's won't fit you couldn't put a peice of paper between the tires and leafs there 8inc rims offset must be wrong atleast i didn't buy em

Thats improvement.
When you go racing again, tyr not to give it all the power right off the bat. Let the power come on gradually that way ut will allow your tires to try to hook once it gets going.

Everytime I slap it off the line reall hard it goes up in smoke. So what I do is just ease into the throttle quickly but not quickly where you start spinning.

Also on your tires and rims combo you put your 255 60/15's on and were they rubbing the leaf springs and the inner part of the fender lip.

We should be getting our Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires today or tomorow, we are going to put them on and take the car to our local 1/8 mile track in Mississippi.

Another way to try to hook better is try not to do a big burnout, just a slight burnout because they heat up quickly. Basically just clean them off.

Our springs are clamped just in two areas, i think they are stock locations on the springs.
