In a nutshell what makes the slider caliper more desirable than the pin type?
I have a set of pin type and I am wondering if it is worth it to swap for the sliders.

here is my experience
everyone said that the sliders were better, so i got the sliders for my car, mostly because its has less parts and is simpler and i believe the calipers are more available and cheaper
realistically they work about equal
last fall after i put about 2,000 miles on the new brake i pull them apart to check it over and found hot that there was a small pebble that worked its way into the machined way under the hold down clip- it marred everything up- so i pulled it apart and filed the machined way down nice and flat again-
i haven't had problems since
if i were to do it again i would use a pin type for alittle more smoothness and more containment

I've heard that the parts for the pin-type are harder to find. I prefer them to sliders simply because I've owned more cars that had them; I could do a pad change on both sides in about 10 minutes time...

Functionally they are about equal. The pin-type parts are more expensive and harder to find. The pin-type also never came on an a-body.

Ahh, ok. So if I have 'em already (pulled 'em off one of my Cordobas) There is no reason not to use 'em.
DartKnight I agree with you there, I used to change those puppies so quick it wasn't funny. The only downer was I broke a couple of pins off in the assembly tryin' to get them off once or twice.

as long as you grease them every 10k imles or so, they will be no problem to dissasemble

Yep, you have to keep them lubed up or they're done. I used to have a box full of them; I picked up a few every time I went to the junkyard, just in case...
