When I rebuilt mine I just set it up with what felt right.  I wouldn't use gear oil in it though. Use a good quality grease, Dow Corning Molykote G-4700 is what I put in mine. You can pack it in as you're putting it together, then shoot a little more in through the fill hole in the top when it's all together. Just my 2cts. Willie
