I don't recommend Spintechs then, quite loud with 3" pipes. I've used Dynomax super turbos before, nice and quiet with a good sound.

If you are going to use cutouts at the track, then 2 1/2" pipe on the street would keep the exhaust quieter than with 3".

.

agree  I had a full 3 inch exhaust with aero chamber mufflers, then switched to super turbos , I would say that it cut the sound in half. The guys said at Jegs that it was  the most quiet performance muffler they handled

My cppa's have 3.5" collectors with 2" primaries. I then went with 3" into a X pipe into a pair of 3" dynomax bullets.

My experience..

I have been using a local muffler shop for a decade...They have installed systems in all my cars...Dynomax, Flowmasters, Magnaflow...and they specialize in performance systems and such. When I was there, one of the original Dodge trucks in the TV series Emergency (Squad 51) was having its exhaust system worked on..

Anyhow, they won't carry Dynamax any longer. They told me that lately they have been getting too many warranty returns with busted welds and prematurely blown baffles...Enough of these cases to warrant them dropping the line entirely.. Shocked

OTOH, they told me that they have yet to have a return on a Flowmaster unit. In their opinion, the Flowmaster is the best made muffler in the marketplace..

Here's the rub...I have had Flowmaster 40 on my Dart since the build, but I felt that they were too loud for a streeter and wanted to swap them for Dynamax, which I was told, run quieter...That's when the Muffler tech told me the story above, and suggested that I keep the Flowmasters, but maybe install a crossover to dampen the loud sound and annoying harmonics in the cab.....which I did.

Now It's only LOUD at WOT, and I can carry out a normal tone conversation with my passengers..

I have no connection to Flowmaster products other than as a customer. I don't even have a Flowmaster sticker anywhere on my car.. Smiley

Please understand that it is not my intent to start a pissing contest here...I'm just passing on for your consideration what the owner of what I deem as a qualified and trusted Muffler shop told me..

the 3 inch dynomax turbos are quiet and have a good sound, they are some what restrictive, i turned a 12.20 car into a 11.90 car by switching to the race bullets. the bullets are a little much for driving on the street. my dad now has the car and he put a set of 3" in 2 chamber flowmasters on it. didn't seem to slow it down to much, and they have a good throaty sound that won't drive you out of the car on a long cruise. haven't been to the track with the flowmasters.

That wouldn't surprise me. I bought a Dynomax exhaust for my Jeep, that was the loudest 4 cyl I've ever heard. Made most musclecar exhausts seem quiet. But, thats apparantly what happens when the muffler is assembled with no packing material.  Roll Eyes

On the 67 Dart It has 2 inch tti 's with 3 1/2 inch colectors,3inch exhaust and tti's h-pipe Flowmaster 50's.Before the h-pipe it was loud inside from the harmonics and the flowmasters after the h-pipe it quieted the inside and also lost most of the cam lope.Made the .557 cam sound milder.Could be a benifit if you are trying to hide the cam(Pinks)

I run 3" behind the 440 in my 63 with the Dyno Max Ultra Flows.  It's not real loud until you lay into it.  I plan to uncap it at the track next time to see if it helps.  Ron

if you have a nasty enough motor, cherry bombs sound fine.  they just dont belong on a 40 year old, low compresion, tired motor with dead valve springs and a stock cam. i dont like any muffler that has chambers and stuff liek that. they sound great but suck to cruise, plus why not have something that just flows strait through with no restriction. i have tried magnaflow and the dynomax ultra flows, the magnaflow uses stainless steel wool, where as the dynomax has fiberglass, both have  a preforated core, not louvered like an old cherry bomb, they do sound a little different and i like the maganflow more. but they both are pretty quiet for being straight through.

Just had  2 /12" V-FLow (Flowmaster knockoffs) put on at Tuffy....sounds REAL nice and just like a Flowmaster for 1/2 the price. I admit though that they are on the ragged edge of being able to have a conversation on the street with a 11.1 340 and 508 lift Purple cam. Recommended though!

I was at my local Lordco Parts store the other day and I aked the manager there about this DynaMax warranty thing. I spend alot of $$$ there and know everyone really well, So I don't think they are going to Jerk me around. Anyways the manager told me that he sells alot of them and never once has had a warranty call about them. Make's me Wonder if that muffler shop had some other Issue going on Huh

I don't think so... The guys at my muffler shop were just upfront with me about their shop's experience with warranty returns when I inquired about getting Dynamax for my Dart..

Matter of fact, If they had really wanted to, they could have tried to sell me another brand of muffler (Magnaflow, Borla) or even upgraded my Flowmasters to a "better" model, but they were honest enough to tell me to keep my existing Flowmasters..

That says a lot about their ethics right there, at least in my book.

BTW, check out user's reviews on Dynamax and Flowmasters:

i have had 2.5" DM supe-turbos on my truck for 2yrs. now. i like them. they don't wake the neighborhood + pop-ish at WOT and have not had any warranty issues  i have a friend with 2.5" FM 40's and i like them too. a little throatier @ idle + quieter WOT. though eithe 2.5 would be kinda defeating the purpose of 3.5" collecters and 3" x. just my.02
