Ok so after measuring 5 times it's final I have a 8 3/4 for a B body! From leaf spring centerline to leaf spring centerline it's 44" and from flange to flange it's 55"
Question 1) If I use this 8 3/4 whats the correct back spacing of the wheel I would need to use in order for me not to rub the fender? Whats the largest size wheel and tire combo I can get under it with and without leaf spring relocator kit? The wheels are gonna be either 15's or 16's on a 73 DArt Swinger.
Question 2) since I already have to move my leaf spring perches should I go ahead and do a leaf spring relocator kit?
This car is gonna be a street rod....don't know if that help ya.

I am running a factory length A body rear and getting tires fat tires on and off is a little difficult. I have to raise the car and let the suspension hang to get the wheels off. With a B body you are loosing approx. 1 3/4" of space. With that in mind I did mine ass backwards. I installed the rear end and ordered the tires I wanted. I centered the tires in the modified wheel house and simulated the width of a 10" wide wheel (that I had not purchased yet at that time) with a few pices of wood. With 325 50's there isn't alot of room so I had the rear brakes installed also. Then I measured backspacing and had the wheels made. My wheel backspacing is 7.25" and if I had a B body rear that would be a 9" backspacing with my set up which can't be made on a 15" or 16" x 10" wheel. http://www.wheelvintiques.com/pdfs/wheel_fitment.pdf will help size the wheels. If I did it again, I would order the wheel / tire combo, center them in the wheel house and have the rear cut to fit. Good luck Tom

2) if I wanted to keep this one so I don't have to change axles to BBP or drums am I on the right track in moving the perches in 1/2" and getting a larger back spacing wheel? What type of back spacing would I need for 15 x 8 or 15 x 10 " wheels? I want some meat on the back that for sure.... 3) Since I'm already moving the perches 1/2" can't I just do a leaf spring relocation kit and move them to where they need to go according to the kit? Or do they need to be welded on and then new ones welded next to them?

2. Yes. I'm not positive, but I think the largest 15" wheel you can get in your Dart with factory spring location is a 275/60/15 with a 15" x 8" wheel with 4.5" backspacing. With a '62 to '70 B body rear, theoretically you would need a 15" x 8 " wheel with a 6.3" backspace.
You will have to check your wheel manufacturer for maximum backspace. If you were having a set of steelies made, they will only backspace a 15" x 8" wheel to 6.25"
3. If puchasing a relocation kit, remove the old perches and weld on the new ones that come with the kit. Or do a search onthis site and make your own. It really comes down to what you want to do with the car. If you want some fat tires, start cutting on the car. But there are guys on this site running quick times on small tires.
If you are absolutely not going to shorten the rear, install it first then measure your backspacing requirements. If you are going to shorten the rear end, purchase the wheels and tires, put them in the wheel house and have the rear shortened as needed.
Someone will chime in that's running an uncut B rear end.

Thx Tom, No I don't want to shorten the rear end....I do how ever want to do a leaf spring relocation kit....not mini tubed! Just the kit will work for me.
I'd love to have 295's on the back.....is that possible with the relocation kit? This will be a street rod. If I go to the track the car will be drivin there 120 miles away.
So I guess the the b body rear and a 15x8 rim I need 6.3 back spacing? and I'll be able to fit 295's on the back? Or do I go w/a 15x10 to get that size tire?

I think your getting ahead of yourself. What should be done i think is get the rear end and put it in the car then measure everything with I think it's called a plumb bob or somthing I used a string with a washer on the end . You measure the wides point, like the inner fender where it would touch, the mounting point on the breaks, and the inner most point or where the inner most point will be. Then factor in like 1/2 in clearance on each side. With those measurements you can determine your backspacing and how big of a rim. It's pretty easy also if you just jack it up and put any rim on there and look at it with a tape measure and you can see like, I can take 2 or 3 more inches in and it will be fine. Also take into consideration section when you buy a tire because the tire sort of bowes out and gets fat in the middle and it could rub there.
Good luck first things first

do this if you dont plan on chopping down a rear end if you plan on running a narrowed one, put your rims you want in first and cut to fit

I talked to moser eng. and they said they'd cut the housing and respline the axles for $210... I guess I'll just do the factory setting on the pinion angle. Is this a decent deal?

I have a B body rearend in my dart. Using Weld Draglites wheels 15 X 10 with 8 1/2" backspacing which is the largest backspacing for that wheel. Am currently using Hoosier Quick Time, P295/60D-15 which has a section width of 13 and 1/4" on my 10" wheels. My springs are relocated into the frame, lots of room between springs and tire. Very Very close fit to body, about 1/2" clearance. You may need to file some of the inner lip so that the tire does not rub when flexing. I did this and now the tire does not rub. Just a note. I will be changing to the 295/65R15 Mickey Thompson ET Street Radial in the future. I should gain about 3/8" extra clearance per side between tire and body. Hope this helps.

Yeah, that is pretty decent. Is that including shipping? Have you called around to see if there is anyone local that would cut and respline?
