I am going to put after market disc brakes on my 67 Dart/ front end. I want the large bolt pattern and dont want to search the ends of the earth. What is a good brand for the $$ and when I purchase a set. will I stil need the later mod Disc brake upper control arms or are they provided or adjusted for? Are there any other parts I need to find. Looking for aftermarket not some other older mod mock up.
thanks for the help. which brakes do you guys like. I am not sure what motor is going in this 67 dart yet but I am working on getting my buddy to part with his 1970 340 that is done with a 6 pack set up. If ot, then I guess I have to send off one of my 440s for a stroker rebuild from 440source.
In either case, I want it to stop and will also need a front sway bar.

Does your Dart have 9 inch or 10 inch drums? Most /6's had 9's, and V8's had 10's. The spindles are different and limit some choices.

I imagine they are 9 inch as there are 13 in tired/rims on it right now. Wouldnt most complete disc brakes/ after market kits have the new spindles? LAWFISH

I bought the kit from Engineered Components, and it was a nice kit at a good price, but it only fits 10 inch drum spindles. I believe Master Power Brakes sells a kit that comes complete with new spindles and upper control arms.

Different kits require different parts. 13" wheels were standard with 9" or 10" drums. V8 a-bodies came with 10". If you need 10" drum spindles I might still have a spare set (if I didn't sell them already).

OK, so I guess first thing is first, I have 13 wheels, so I have to pull the tire and measure the ? width of the brake drum? Or how do I get a spindle size, that way? LAWFISH

Pull a wheel and look at the spindle. The nine inch upper part is twisted compared to the ten inch. Pics would make it easy to tell.

I checked their site. I cant believe the prices. $1200 for the brake kit. I was thinking between $700- $800 for a kit. Those include the spindles. I will go out and check, get a set of pics of the front end so I know what I am starting with. LAWFISH

WellI pulled the wheel and the brakes look VERY VERY small, Jim you said twisty, and I am no mechanic but this looks twisty to me, here are some pics. I am either going this 340 6 pack or a 440 to 500 stroker, so I need good brakes. Let me know what you guys reccomend. I do have some parts cars here a 70 duster, so I can always check the front of that. I also have some 14 wheels that I am going to use for now that are sitting on a 68 post dart that I am going to sell and witch out the tire/rims until I can get the rest of the car done and swap out the brakes and rear end. I want the large bolt pappern all around and an 8 3/4 rear. HERE IS THE LINK TO THE RESTO ON THE CAR. i BLOCKED all day today I primed epoxy yesterday and many coats of K36/PPG today and the sanding started. I am no mechanic but I like to do my own paint here at home. The car is also going to be a 4 speed car. http://www.smithvalleymopars.com/67_hemi_dart.htmLAWFISH PICS 67 dart brake question

Yep, those are nine inch. The ten inch go straight up from the spindle to the upper ball joint, not to the front like those.

If you find some 10 inch drum spindles, the ECI kit is about $750.00. Look under ECI Brakes. Remember to factor in the price of new ball joints, master, proportioning valve, etc. when comparing to the complete kit.

Willwood makes a set for your 9" spindles part #140-2722-B,I think I payed around $700-$750 for them. 4 piston calipers, vented rotors, billet hubs, easy directions.

The ECI kit is $575.00 for what you see below. The Wilwood is $673.00 for what you guys think is a better deal? And if I buy a kit like this as compared to a $1195.00 SBC kit, what do you think the remainder of the parts needed will cost? What type of master do I need since I guess this one in the 67 wont work? I have aomse parts car, B body and a couple of other items with brakes. Anything to use. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and get the whole $1200 kit! ECI KIT BELOW WILWOOD KIT INCLUDES Wilwood Dynalite Pro Series Front Disc Brake Kits Disc Brakes, Front, Pro Series, Solid Rotors, 4-Piston Calipers, Dodge/ Plymouth, Kit tHEN THERE IS ssbc KITS link http://www.stainlesssteelbrakes.com/products/searchByVehicle/Dodge/Dart/1967 And I would not even know which kit to start with here, they officer many many different systems. There are any where from a grand to $1300-1400. Do I need a 3 caliper or 4 caliper system?

It would be so much cheaper to just buy the swap components and peice it together yourself, if you used 1973 and later components, you could do it for about $500 complete. For another $80, you can upgrade to the 12" rotors.

DO NOT RUN THE NINE INCH SPINDLES. They are considerably weaker than the 10".

Check out the new issue of POPULAR HOT RODDING, they have a whole story on converting the 9" drums to WIllwood discs on a 68 Dart, total cost they had was $980, which included everything including new master cylinder.

I've had willwoods with the 9" spindles for 5 years, with no problems, including driving it on the street and at the track.People told me not to run the s/6 tortion bars either and my car rides fine with those too.Of course it can't corner though.

My buddy called me today and informed me he would sell me his rebuilt 1970 340 for my dart. Its a 70 and now is rebuilt has a brnad new 6 pack manifold and all the trimmings and HP manifolds. I dont know what the manifolds go to, poss an E body, think they will fit in this dart. It also comes with a real 440-6 air cleaner, old school one. Hope to get it all for $4k. Would be my deal of the year and would be an easy swap. I know I know not a big block. But I am just finishing up the 650 HP 500 stroker for the 70 Cuda lawfish drag car, so I am a little stretched and I am trying to get a ton of stuff done on the property in idaho and get ready for a move--so its all up in the air. Now, I need some brakes. LAWFISH

I just bought a Wilwood kit, so I have some VERY low usage rotors and calipers w/brackets for sale. It's 74 Duster stuff, large bolt pattern with bearings and everything. All you'd need is the spindles and UCA's. PM me if you're interested.

i pieced together my front brakes for about $500 for the 11.75 inch (stock) rotors
if you want to get more of a kit, i would go with the ssbc brakes, the ones that have just an adapter bracket plate just dont settle right with me
you absolutely dont need 4 piston calipers, unless of course you are going to autocross it or you want them just for show,
i use a 1 piston 73 b body caliper and i love it, really lightens up the pedal over the stock a body caliper and you have plenty of feel
i can stop from 60mph to 0 in 105 ft, and i dont need the shiny bling kits to do it

https://www.reillymotorsports.com/Try this outfit ............ I got my kit from them. It was complete with spindles and cake to install. I opted for tubular upper arms W/ ball joints and new joints on the lower and was still under 900.00.
