I`m chaknging my 318 to a 340 in my 1974 dart sport . im using my 904 trannie and i wonder : can I use the 318 converter? will the engine fit right in to the engine mounts? is the coolant inlet and outlet at the same place? is there anything else i need to think about?

Works as long as you have the 340 mounts. Not the same as 318

The right side engine mount is the same, the left one is different. On the 346/360 blocks the ears for the left side mount are in a slightly different location than the 318. You can use the 318 mount but will have to use longer bolts and spacers. When you have the two engines beside each other the difference will be obvious. The converter will work fine but you may need to use the flex plate from the 318 - I am not absolutely sure on that but again it will be apparent when you have everything apart. I think the lower rad hose connection (inlet) changed side about 1969. If it is a problem you can use the water pump, timing cover, etc. from the 318.

I just put a 727 in my 84 truck, staight out of my nephews 340 dart. I used the same none weighted 2500 stall converter that was in my truck. It's working great. 318 and 340 were internally balanced, and used the same none weighted converters with the same bolt pattern. 360 were the same expected they are externally balanced and used a weighted converter.I bought a 74 truck someone had installed a '87 318 and a '85 transmisson. It had a bad vibration, I got it cheap. I found the problem. the transmission and convertor were out of a 360. I took a chisel to the weights. Smooth as silk for 9 years. Drove it to the crusher.
